“Cine Nuevo”
Pintura Acrílica
A mural for Día de los Muertos at UNAM. The theme was the cinematography of Mexico and I chose the era of Cinema Nuevo which highlights Guillermo Del Toro, Alejandro González Iñárritu, and Alfonso Cuarón and some of the characters in their films. I only had 5 days to make this 😀

ENG

This exhibition begins by recognizing that what is considered normative has historically shaped not only which bodies can be represented, but also how they are expected to be seen. The work by Natán Murillo presented here proposes an intimate and complicit gaze that shifts interpretation toward the affective experiences of sexual encounter. Far from an explicit sexualization of trans bodies, the series invites viewers to engage with a close, tender eroticism, where the visible becomes a space of care, vulnerability, and shared intimacy. Rather than asking what can or cannot be shown within the symbolic space of art, this exhibition relocates that symbolic space into these representations themselves, stretching its limits and overflowing its categories. The interest here does not lie in canonical legitimation, but in the possibility of seeing—and sustaining one’s gaze upon—the intimacy, affection, and emotional complexity that inhabit bodies.
