Honored and happy to have contributed to the iconographic research for the historical image section and to the afterword of the first edition of Design: global, crítico, negro, prático, by Rafael Bessa, published by Clube do Livro do Design.

The book brings together four essays exploring the intersections of globalization, labor, politics, and visual culture, addressing urgent questions around Black design, dependent capitalism, and the precarity of work.

This Brazilianly cut and polished jewel there is no English edition yet, but the book is still available through the official Clube do Livro do Design website, currently in Brazilian Portuguese. by @gnborges

A todas, minha profunda gratidão.

“Amor” is a 22-minute black-and-white short film created for the Poetics of Relation: Opacity and the Moving Image course led by Professor Aily Tanaka Nash at @harvardafvs. Rooted in Édouard Glissant’s philosophy of opacity and relation, the film explores the layered, elusive nature of love: its ambiguity, contradictions, and everyday manifestations.

At its core, Amor unfolds as a bilingual dialogue between @paolaovandoperaza, whose voice in Spanish, and me, in Portuguese.

Structured in six chapters, mirroring Glissant’s book, the film gradually expands in scale, both visually and emotionally. Each chapter opens with a short text written in a hybrid of Spanish and Portuguese: an invented language (that I created) that acts like a secret code. Partially intelligible yet intentionally opaque, it reflects the in-between spaces where love often resides.

Visually, Amor captures the ordinariness of daily life: cooking, commuting, folding laundry, and meeting friends. Shot over twelve days with a Sony Handycam, the film is unscripted, documenting these mundane moments that stand in contrast to the intensity of the voiceover. It reveals how intimacy can be found in repetition, silence, and the often-overlooked aspects of daily experiences.

I directed, edited, co-wrote, designed the visuals, and created the sound design for the film, crafted to echo the emotional texture of the narrative.

This film mediates language, intimacy, and the dignity of what doesn’t need to be explained. Told through fragments and coexisting voices. A quiet yet resonant journey across cultural, linguistic, and emotional borders.

✨Hey friends!✨
I’m on the lookout for designer gigs between BostonXNYC (mostly). If you hear about anything that feels like the stuff I was doing at the GSD, send it my way!

Made this little compilation with some of the projects I’ve worked on since getting to Harvard. 🤙🏽

A Dialogue of Love_Machine
(Or simply A Dialogue of Love)

This project from MIT/MTA Electronic Music class delves into the elusive, perhaps even silly, essence of love.

Love, among many feelings, isn’t always about understanding; it’s about feeling. Armed with a TASCAM DR-40X, I ventured into both uncharted and charted emotional territories. I handed the device to six Harvard GSD students. Each person spoke in their native language or second language—anything but English.

From the bustling halls of Gund to secluded quiet rooms, these six voices shared fleeting phrases, profound thoughts, old messages, and cherished poems. The goal was to create a bridge between language and emotion, culture and expression. By weaving together diverse voices and languages, I aimed to create a harmonious blend of sound that transcends borders and resonates with universal truths, doubts, or lies, depending on how one perceives this subject.

After gathering the recordings, I embarked on the music production journey. Using Ableton and synthesizers like the Juno 106, alongside recorded noise and edited samples, I transformed the raw recordings into a melodic tapestry that captures, in a unique way, the essence of love (?).
