Doubt is a funny thing, isn’t it?

‘doubt sometimes comes from uncertainty
or a lack of knowing

so take the time -

to pause
to learn new things
to be kind to yourself
to be patient with yourself
to take risks -
but still honour your boundaries and your limits -
and simply grow in the unknown.

place yourself in new rooms and spaces -

you may find the warmth of comfort returning

and the doubt that once was becoming a distant memory’

Ihi. Wehi. Mana.
March 2026
@aucklandartsfestival

An amazing, unique and inspiring project dreamt up by the A-team, brought to life after years in the making, rooted from a special relationship forged decades ago.

It was a great privilege to sing in this choir and perform choral works by prolific Aotearoa composers, Takerei Komene @komenechoirs and Robert Wiremu (including newly commissioned works with kupu by Ata Papa @ataahuapapa and Pania Papa), and to be led and conducted by the legendary Dr Karen Grylls @karen.grylls with support from Sofia Onishko @soni_oni and RSW on the piano. It was also extremely special to sing in the same choir as my mentors, Fiona Wilson, @jamesharrisonsongstories and Elise Bradley, who fostered my love of singing.

Above all, it was an absolute honour to be on the same stage as the renowned Te Waka Huia; to watch them perform, and then waiata (and haka!) side by side.

@tewakahuia — thank you for your warm welcome and embrace, your generosity, joy and humour, and for the unspoken lessons you gifted us by your presence and simply being who you are. So blessed with the friendships made from this weekend x Can’t wait to waiata with you again — I hope it’s sometime soon xx
