A woman in our Facebook community messaged me last month.

She was a social worker, home with her second baby, dreading the idea of going back to a job that didn’t leave room for her family anymore. She loved her clinical background. She just didn’t love what it was costing her at home.

She asked me, “is there a version of this work I could do on my own schedule?”

There is. It’s actually the exact reason Good Night Sleep Site exists in the first place.

I started this company 18 years ago sitting on my living room floor with my twins in bouncy seats and my oldest daughter nearby, because I needed work that could bend around my family instead of the other way around.

Since then I’ve built a team of over 10 certified consultants across North America, and many of them came from another career first. Social workers. Therapists. Nurses. Teachers. Moms who simply figured out their own baby’s sleep and never looked back. What they all have in common is a background in caring for people, and a desire to do that work on their own terms.

Thinking about a career where you set your own hours, reduce burnout, work from home, and help exhausted families finally sleep? Here’s exactly what it takes to join our team, and why now might be the right time to make the leap.

Every consultant who joins Good Night Sleep Site must become a certified sleep consultant, and we make that part easy by pointing you towards the certification programs we trust, is most affordable and most reputable, so you’re not left guessing.

Right now in Canada we’re specifically only adding social workers, therapists, nutritionists, and lactation consultants to the team. Feel free to share this post with a friend who you think maybe a great fit.

In the United States, we’re open to applicants from any background.

This is a chance to build new income around your own hours, join a trusted company that’s been in this industry for 19 years, and keep the flexibility to do it part time if that’s what your family needs right now.

Training starts soon!

This time of year, I hear from parents confused because their child seems wired instead of tired right before bed

Overtiredness happens when a child doesn’t get enough age appropriate sleep, whether that’s from a skipped nap, a late bedtime, or sleep debt building up over days.

Once that happens, the body releases a surge of stress hormones, and that’s what creates the second wind, a burst of energy that shows up right when you’d expect your child to be winding down.

The signs look different depending on age.

A toddler or preschooler tends to get clingy, more tantrum prone, or unusually silly. A school age child gets more sensitive and has a harder time with transitions. A teenager often gets forgetful and irritable in a way that’s easy to mistake for attitude instead of exhaustion.

Across every age, the fix starts in the same place.

1. An age appropriate sleep schedule
2. A calming wind down routine
3. Screens off an hour before bed
4. An earlier bedtime to help pay down that sleep debt.

Once you know what you’re actually looking at, it gets so much easier to catch it early instead of guessing your way through another rough bedtime.

Comment TODDLER if your child is younger, or TEEN if they’re 8 to 18, and I’ll send you the free discovery guide built for your child’s stage, so you know exactly what to watch for and what to do next.

POV: it’s been a chaotic summer and bedtime just got interesting.

Late nights, skipped naps, family trips, and now suddenly you’re trying to get your toddler back on some kind of schedule and they are not having it.

One more drink, one more hug, a request to say goodnight to every single stuffed animal, sound familiar?

Toddlers stall like it’s a full time job, and honestly, summer just gave them so much more material to work with.

Add in a toddler who’s recently made the jump to a big kid bed and is now testing every square inch of their new freedom, or one who’s smack in the middle of dropping to one nap or no nap at all, and bedtime can start to feel like a nightly negotiation.

Here’s the good news, none of this means something is wrong, and none of it means you’re starting from zero. It usually just means it’s time to reset expectations and get back to some consistency.

A calm, predictable bedtime routine, a clear plan for what happens when they get out of bed, again and again if needed, and a nap or quiet time schedule that actually matches where your toddler is right now can turn this around faster than you’d think.

Comment TODDLER and I’ll send you the link to our Mini Toddler Schedules Program. For only $27 I’ve built this program, with an audio lesson to help you reset naps and bedtime, and everything in between so your toddler’s sleep gets back on track for their exact age and stage. It’s a simple reset, not a whole new system to learn.

Here’s what no one tells you about toddler sleep after an inconsistent summer schedule. It doesn’t usually come back on its own, and it’s rarely just one issue causing the chaos. The toddler years bring a whole cluster of sleep challenges that tend to show up together, especially after a summer of later nights and looser routines.

There’s the toddler who’s recently moved into a big kid bed and can’t resist testing their new freedom by popping out of it, again and again.

There’s the nap transition, moving from two naps to one, or eventually to none, which almost always means some short, skipped, or late naps along the way.

There’s the classic bedtime stall, one more drink, one more hug, one more stuffed animal to say goodnight to.

And there’s the newly discovered fear of the dark, or an early wake up that keeps creeping earlier by the week.

None of these mean your toddler is suddenly a bad sleeper, and none of them mean you’re doing something wrong. They’re just part of this stage, and every single one of them responds well to the same thing, consistency. A calm bedtime routine, a clear and boring response when they get out of bed, and a nap or quiet time schedule that actually fits their age right now.

This time of year always reminds me why the back to school sleep reset works the exact same way no matter what age your child is.

It’s never really about willpower or forcing an early bedtime the night before the first day.

In our house we start with a family meeting. We talk about why the routine is changing and why everyone’s body needs sleep to grow, focus, and feel good. It sounds simple, but including your kids in the why makes a bigger difference than most parents expect. An earlier bedtime is always part of this meeting!

We also take a hard look at the sleep environment, blackout blinds, white noise if it’s needed, and a family docking station so phones and tablets are out of bedrooms at least an hour before lights out.

And we don’t skip the feelings part. Back to school brings up real anxiety for kids and teens, new teachers, new classrooms, the unknown. Giving them space to talk about it, through a shared journal, a drawing, or just conversation at the dinner table, is as much a part of the sleep plan as the bedtime routine itself.

None of this has to be complicated, and none of it has to happen overnight.

————————————————

Comment SCHOOL and I’ll send you the link to our Mini Back to School Program, built to help you reset sleep for every age in your house before that first bell rings. It walks you through the exact schedule and routine shifts for your child’s age and stage, so you’re not guessing your way through the first week.
