Training, recovery & the gear that earns its place.

POSTS STORIES REELS

HYDRER started because she refused to put her face on one more shared gym mat — and said so, out loud, mid-session.

Her notes became the test for every bit of kit after that: what works, what lasts, what we'd never buy twice. Then she pulled her family into it — the early sessions, the standards, all of it. HYDRER is those notes turned into gear for anyone who trains: a mat of your own — his, hers, whoever's — and the kit that earns its place around it.

This page isn't a diary. It's the standard, kept in public: the rituals, the rules, and the gear that survives both. The story lives here and on our About page. Everything else is the work.

The floor twist.

Two minutes a side, most evenings. Knees dropped one way, arms wide, head turned the other way. Breathe out as the knees settle — no forcing, no bouncing.

The day's sitting, undone on the mat.

Hills once a week.

One hill, walked hard or run easy, once a week. Legs, lungs and patience in a single session — no watch splits, no programme, just the slope doing the coaching.

The flat days feel easier because this day isn't.

His own session now: a coach, a line of cones, and total concentration.

Movement starts as play. Show up, listen, move well — the same habits we're still working on, just smaller shoes. by @go.hydrer

Pick it up like a lift.

The box, the shopping, the small person who wants carrying — they all get the same standard as a barbell: hips back, back flat, load close.

The hinge isn't a gym exercise we leave at the gym. It's how heavy things get picked up, every day.

Strong days start at the ground.

Feet and calves do the first and last work of every session — and usually get trained never. A few slow raises, full range, no bouncing.

Small muscles, long careers.

Give them two minutes.

Most runs stay easy.

Easy enough to breathe, easy enough to talk. The unglamorous pace that builds the base everything else stands on.

Hard days mean more when they're rare.

Leg day ends lying down.

Press work first — hard, controlled, nothing rushed. Then the session stops on purpose: boots on, legs up, fifteen minutes of doing nothing.

We won't pretend the boots are magic. What they do, every time, is keep us still long enough to actually stop. That stop is part of the session, not what comes after it.

Depth only counts when the back stays down.

On the leg press, we stop the rep where the pelvis would start to roll. Past that point, the lower back does the work the legs were meant to do — and the depth stops being honest.

Shorter and clean beats deeper and borrowed.

One session a week, no headphones.

We keep one outdoor session headphone-free. Footfall, breathing, and the park doing the talking. Without a soundtrack, the pace settles on its own and form gets honest — you hear the session you're actually doing.

The other sessions can have music. This one stays quiet.

Same lift, slightly heavier.

Progress doesn't always announce itself. Sometimes it's one small plate, one extra rep, the same weight moving cleaner than last month.

Log it, notice it, keep going.

Quiet progress is still progress.

The squat is a rest position.

Before it was an exercise, it was where people sat. A few minutes a day — coffee in hand counts — keeps the ankles, knees and hips honest without a single stretch routine.

Mobility you live in beats mobility you schedule.
