Meet the Teacher:

Gopal Agarwal
Gopal Agarwal is a dancer, choreographer, educator and curator, and the Founder & Artistic Director of Dance INC India.

A graduate of the Terence Lewis Professional Training Institute, Mumbai, Gopal has over a decade of experience in Contemporary, Jazz and Ballet. His practice explores technical and artistic movement, improvisation and his evolving movement vocabulary, Movement Intelligence (MI).

He has directed and choreographed acclaimed contemporary productions including Karshati, Namah and Territorial, and has curated dance for Abhivyakti City Arts Project, one of Asia’s largest performing arts festivals, for two consecutive editions — Edition 7 and 8.

He is also the Director of CIMA — Certification in Movement Arts and the curator of Atma Manthan Performing Arts Festival.

Gopal continues to work at the intersection of movement, education, choreography and artistic curation.

SO, LET’S GO TO AHMEDABAD.

Over the years, Ahmedabad has slowly become a vibrant hub for dance, movement research and contemporary arts in India.

Away from the usual party and tourist circuit, it offers something different. A city of culture, architecture, food, textiles, history and artistic exploration.

A place to come, connect, move and discover.

Our festival’s aim:
How can Contact become composition?
How can improvisation become a choreographic tool?
How can principles of Contact be developed for the stage?
How can we create performance without losing the intelligence and spontaneity of improvisation?

What are we curious about?

Can we return to the questions that made it radical in the first place?
Can we look at it through choreography?
Through performance?
Through contemporary dance?
Through artistic research?
Through critical and embodied scholarship?
And can we do this without rejecting the communities that have carried the practice forward?
