Most marketing infrastructure has been built around attention.

The next opportunity is building systems around connection.

The real-world market has enormous value, but too much of it is still difficult to find, compare, price and trust.

Brands do not have a lack of options.

They have a lack of clear, structured, relevant opportunities that match their business objective and the people they actually want to reach.

The old model relies on guesswork, who knows who and static presentations.

Better connections need better structure.

For brands, this is about moving from depending on passive sponsorship proposals to building intentional opportunity pipelines.

Less waiting and hoping. More precision, control and accountability.

For assets, trying to calculate your value is not enough on its own.

It needs to be packed in a way that brands can understand, assess, buy and measure.

GoBadger created value for both sides.

Brands get clearer access to their target market. Asset owners get discovered by brands already looking for what they offer.

Connection is not created by adding more logos, pushing more advertising or setting up more branding.

It happens when brands show up in the right environments and contribute something people actually care about.

GoBadger is built for both sides of the market.

The brand looking for meaningful access, and the asset owner trying to turn real-world value into commercial opportunity.

This is just the beginning!

GoBadger is the answer to a market that needs less friction, more structure, more visibility, better performance and better ways to scale real-world connection. by @gobadger.io

Digital has made marketing incredibly efficient.

But efficiency and connection aren’t the same thing.

When everyone has access to increasingly similar tools, targeting, platforms and now AI-generated creative, those things become less of a competitive advantage.

The harder thing to replicate is relevance.

Being part of communities people care about. Showing up in environments they actively choose to be in. Creating experiences they remember. Building trust over time.

That’s the opportunity I see for brands right now.

Not digital versus real life.

Build the connection in the real world. Use digital to make it travel.

And if you’re a brand reconsidering how you show up and looking to become more connection and human first, join the @gobadger.io waitlist - LIB👆🏽

GoBadger gives brands the infrastructure to find, value, measure, manage and report on real-world opportunities at scale.

Because if connection is going to become a bigger part of the marketing mix, brands need the infrastructure to treat it with the same rigour as every other channel. by @gobadger.io

The value of a perfectly aligned sponsorship can be enormous.

The hard part is finding one.

When I was at Red Bull, I would get hundreds of sponsorship proposals every month. And yet finding the opportunities that were actually right for the business was still difficult.

I still had a budget to spend. I still had commercial outcomes to deliver. I still had to be able to defend the investment internally and report back on whether it had actually worked.

But discovery was messy.

Verification was difficult.

Comparing one opportunity against another was difficult.

And too much depended on who knew who, what landed in your inbox and whether the person pitching the opportunity knew how to translate its value properly.

It shouldn’t be that hard.

The right sponsorship can give a brand access to the right audience, meaningful real-world engagement, content, media, customer relationships, data, hospitality, community and ultimately commercial return.

But only if the fit is right in the first place.

That’s a big part of why we built GoBadger.

To make finding, evaluating and investing into sponsorship opportunities easier, more transparent, more commercially sound and far easier to defend inside the business.

South Africa is already home to some of the best events in the world.

But we’re at a watershed.

The opportunity has changed. Audiences have changed. Brands have changed. The economics have changed.

The events that adapt will keep growing. The ones that don’t will get left behind.

Cape Epic has future-proofed itself. Gravel Burn has started with that thinking from day one. Luxurious Marble Circus, Scorpion Kings, Ultra and others are showing what the next generation of event value can look like.

South Africa has the people, the landscapes, the culture and the capability.

The ceiling is massive.

But the future belongs to the events prepared to evolve. by @gobadger.io

Digital marketing has won the measurement argument. It doesn’t mean it’s won the marketing argument.

That was one of the big themes in my conversation with @terencementor aka @afrodaddyct.

For the last decade, IRL has struggled to compete for budget because digital is easier to measure, report on and ultimately defend in a boardroom.

But events, sponsorships and activations aren’t inherently difficult to measure. We’ve just historically been pretty bad at building the measurement in from the start.

The order matters.

Start with the business outcome. Work out what you need to measure. Put the systems in place. Then work on the idea.

As digital becomes more crowded and real human connection becomes increasingly valuable, I believe getting this right is going to matter a lot more and it is precisely the reason I’ve built @gobadger.io.

Thanks for the conversation, Terence Mentor. Enjoyed getting properly into this one.

I get it. Schoolboy rugby in South Africa is cooking right now.

It’s no surprise that brands want to be part of that momentum. But I also think there’s a much bigger opportunity sitting in the white space around rugby at school level.

Other sports. Other communities. Other credible, well-supported properties where brands don’t have to fight through the clutter just to get noticed.

Why go head-to-head with five other brands for attention when you could own a space, become meaningfully part of that community and build real commercial value from it?

The opportunities are there. The challenge is discovering them.

It’s fascinating watching what @reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian is building with @athlos.

After two events in New York, ATHLOS went international for the first time in London last night, and it feels like another glimpse of where women’s sport is heading.

I think we’re going to see a lot more people building new events, platforms and ecosystems specifically around women’s sport rather than simply trying to fit it into structures that already exist.

And it’s welcomed. It’s well deserved.

As a father of two daughters, this is the kind of thing that gets me genuinely excited.

More investment, more platforms, more opportunities and more female athletes being given the stage their talent deserves.

It feels like we’re only getting started. by @gobadger.io

People are going to @scorpionkingslive for the music, the artists and the experience of being there together.

That’s what brings the audience and gives brands something valuable to be part of.

Look at how the partnerships fit into the day.

Gautrain helps people get there.

Sprite and Castle Lite have the drinks covered.

GalxBoy handles merchandise.

RocoMamas takes the connection into its restaurants with a Scorpion Kings-themed menu available ahead of the concert.

For anyone running an event, team or community, there’s a practical lesson here:

Look at the whole experience you’re creating and where a business can play a useful role. That gives you something specific to offer a potential partner, with a clear commercial purpose.

@gobadger.io helps rights holders present those opportunities and brands find the right fit.

It’s a difficult position to be in when you believe a sponsorship has value, but the information in front of you doesn’t give you enough to justify spending the money again.

I remember that pressure from my time at Red Bull. The event reports would arrive, but translating them into a clear case for our investment was another job entirely.

You’re the one who has to walk into that budget meeting and stand behind the decision.

That experience is a big part of why we’ve built the sponsorship audit into @gobadger.io:

To help brands make that decision with a clearer understanding of what they’re getting for their money. by @gobadger.io

For decades, sponsorship has been very good at putting a ROI number against visibility.

Reach, impressions, screen time, logo exposure and the equivalent cost of buying that attention.

But many brands aren’t investing in events just to be seen. They’re investing because those environments give them access to people they want to connect with.

Visibility absolutely has value.

But so does access, participation, experience and connection.

The opportunity is to get much clearer about what a brand is actually trying to buy, and then measure success accordingly.

That’s how we build a stronger, more sustainable sponsorship economy and it’s one of the reasons I’ve built @gobadger.io.

The scale of the events industry is impressive!

Sponsorship is already a leading revenue source in this economy, yet much of the process around discovering opportunities, matching the right partners, understanding value and proving outcomes remains fragmented.

If events are going to become a $2.5 trillion global industry, the commercial infrastructure around them needs to evolve with it.

That’s exactly why I’ve built @gobadger.io.

What’s always surprised me about sponsorship is how much focus goes into getting the deal signed, and how little goes into making the deal actually work.

Brands aren’t always clear on what they want. Events aren’t always realistic about what they can deliver. And once the contract is signed, brands often assume the job is done. Pay the money, get the rights, move on, without properly leveraging what they’ve bought.

That’s why so many partnerships underperform. The real work is in the alignment, the delivery, the activation and the reporting.

A sponsorship isn’t successful when the contract gets signed. It’s successful when both sides want to sign it again.
