Happy Halloween from McGruff, Woodsy Owl, and Smokey Bear! 🎃 by @gobeadbybead
If you’re in need of a quick and ultralight Halloween costume, all you need is a piece of plastic, scissors, and some sharpies to turn yourself into a shelter log. These pics are from my 2009 SoBo Appalachian Trail thru-hike. That year, there was a hiker signing the logs as Hannah Montana. The entries were so funny and we always looked forward to finding them. On Halloween night, you could smell me coming from a mile away - and it wasn’t the hiker funk - it was the @sharpie . We called ahead to make sure we could have a low key Halloween party in the bar at Big Meadows Lodge and the liar on the phone said we could. We arrived to a very subdued crowd (with no costumes) quietly listening to a father and son singing and playing the flute. We sheepishly made our way to the bar, got some drinks, and kept our revelry in check. #thruhike #appalachiantrail #halloweencostume #ultralight #hikertrash #atthruhike by @gobeadbybead
Pinhoti Fest was a hoot! So happy to finally see first-hand how great the Pinhoti Trail community is! Thanks to everyone for making it such a great weekend! #pinhotitrail by @gobeadbybead
So thrilled to be helping Treeline Review celebrate their 8th birthday! They’ve teamed up with 42 brands to offer nine incredible prize packages filled with the coolest gear to help you get outside in comfort and style. 🥳 It’s been incredible to watch Treeline Review grow over the years and become the go-to place for gear reviews and trip reports. This is the first year Bead by Bead Adventures has been a part of the giveaway, and honestly, it feels like an “I have arrived” moment! Such a thrill to see my logo here with all these other amazing brands! 🥰 When I made my first Bead by Bead on the Appalachian Trail necklace in 2020 as part of the @quarterwayinn (my hiker hostel on the AT) I never would’ve thought Bead by Bead Adventures would become its own thing. I had been dreaming of some kind of wearable progress tracker since my AT thru hike in 2009 and finally made it happen 11 years later!! The AT necklace was a hit, and people who had it then wanted necklaces for their next trail… and then their next trail. Y’all know how hikers like to hike!! 😀 So in 2023, I spun off the necklace business from the hostel business and dove in! I have been designing new trail necklaces (and bracelets and earrings) as fast as I can over the last three years. I’m up to 19 trails and have seven more in the final review phase! And you have a chance to win one by entering the @treelinereview Birthday Giveaway! Enter by finding the link in their bio or going here: https://www.treelinereview.com/giveaway Enjoy these pics of the early version of the Bead by Bead on the AT necklace, the current lineup, and me as a fresh-faced baby hiker called Chunky who had absolutely no idea how thru hiking the #appalachiantrail would completely change her life! And yes, I had no idea what I was doing or why a late SOBO start was a bad idea or the first clue about gear - but I did it anyway! If only Treeline Review had existed then! Could have saved me a lot of trouble!! by @gobeadbybead
Three cheers for Pinhoti Fest! 👏👏👏 #pinhotifest #pinhotitrail #longdistancehiking by @gobeadbybead
Who will I see at Pinhoti Fest this weekend in Sylacauga, Alabama? This will be my first Pinhoti Fest and I’m excited to see what all the fuss is about! I tried going two years ago, but Hurricane Helene had other plans. And last year I was officiating a very special wedding! So, third time’s the charm! #pinhotitrail #pinhotifest by @gobeadbybead
Any guesses where I’ve been lately? by @gobeadbybead
It was so nice to meet so many kind folks building cool stuff at @outdoor_retailer Whether they’re building a new app, a running group, a new trail, or an innovative product - it’s always uplifting to talk to people who are full of passion for what they’re doing. Excitement is contagious. 😊 It was also refreshing to have real conversations with people and I was surprised how often the theme of “I don’t really know what I’m doing, but I’m doing it anyway” came up! You mean I’m not the only one wringing my hands and just figuring it out as I go?! Amazing! ❤️ by @gobeadbybead
Edible round up from @outdoor_retailer 😋 I went to the show as Tina of @gobeadbybead but, of course, I am also Tina of @quarterwayinn and always on the hunt for new stuff for the resupply shop! And I found some goodies! @ontrailbars Good, clean ingredients with more than just peanut butter and chocolate options: the blueberry sample was the best thing I tried at OR! @nomaste_meals All smiles, Indian flavors, great packaging, plus they’re vegan and gluten free! @bowlandkettle Happy to meet Sarah and see her crushing it in person. @nonormalco I do love the ritual of brewing coffee in the woods, but I can see the appeal of a tasty coffee from a tube that requires nothing but water and a cup. @wildbatchco Obviously not edible, but if you want clean hands before you eat, this powdered all in one soap is the ticket! @puppackr This one’s for your four legged friends but they deserve a good meal on trail, too! @trailgoodscompany So nice to meet Luke in person and wow he makes some tasty curry! @highcampflasks Classy and functional drink ware that’ll keep things hot or cold (and thanks for the wine!) by @gobeadbybead
Happy to introduce the Bead by Bead on the Mississippi River necklace from the actual Mississippi River! So great to meet @ianpaitken who came straight from the river in Vicksburg, MS to @outdoor_retailer in Minneapolis, MN. He’s paddling the Mississippi in a foldable kayak 😮 and that’s just the start of his adventures! Can’t wait to follow along! Pro Tip: Movie theater popcorn is not just for the movies! #sourcetosea #mississippiriver by @gobeadbybead
Went straight from Oregon to my home state of Minnesota for @outdoor_retailer ✈️ @garagegrowngear hosted a happy hour on Tuesday where we got to peek behind the website, meet fellow founders, and enjoy the primo Minnesota snack of Old Dutch Rip-L chips + Top the Tater😍! I had the pleasure of getting lost (yes I was driving and know the difference between Minneapolis and St. Paul, but Tom of @alpenglow_gear was navigating and his phone seemed very confident 😬) with THE Georgia Grace of @gnara_apparel . Yes, I fan girled. Wouldn’t you? @foundedoutdoors put on a great session Wednesday morning. It’s so nice to just sit at the same table with other folks making cool things for the outdoors and talk about the joys and challenges. Panel discussions in the afternoon, and then THE @themirnavator (yes, that’s double the’s but she deserves them both!) took the stage! What a thrill to hear her speak and sing - yes, sing. If you’re unfamiliar with Mirna Valerio I suggest you change that. She’ll challenge you to be a better outdoorist in the best way. Finished Wednesday with a Save the Boundary Waters rally with @savethebwca where I fan girled again at meeting @freemanexplore who have put their adventurous spirits to very good use over the years being dedicated advocates for “the quiet places.” 🛶❤️ So fun to be back in MPLS living a very different life than the one I thought I’d be living when I was a horticulture student at the University of Minnesota. #outdoorretailer #savethebwca #theoutdoorsisforeveryone by @gobeadbybead
“Let’s go on a hike!” But the “and I will stop every five seconds to take a picture of my products out in the wild” is silent. 😬 Shot list: ✅ PCT earrings on the PCT ✅ PCT necklace on the PCT ✅ Timberline Trail necklace on the Timberline Trail ✅ Wonderland Trail necklace on a tree that looks like it could be on the Wonderland Trail 📷: @mamabearvail by @gobeadbybead
