F1 is going back to Africa. 🌍

This morning, Formula 1 signed a 10-year deal with Rwanda. The Formula 1 African Grand Prix, presented by Visit Rwanda, will join the calendar in the early 2030s, on a new circuit in Bugesera. First race on the continent since 1993.

Look closely at the name. A national tourism brand is the title sponsor of a Grand Prix. That’s how it always works: when F1 arrives somewhere, local brands follow, and they want a local hero on the car.

The first race is still a few seasons away. Which means the driver who could race it isn’t in F1 today. They’re in karting or F4. Somewhere.

New markets reward the first movers. Is your driver ready to be that story? Take the free DriveLine Index. Link in bio.

The end of French motorsport?

According to the French press, a government inspection has recommended withdrawing the official state approval of the FFSA, the federation that runs motorsport in France. The Sports Minister now has to decide.

Nothing is decided yet. But if it happens, it would be unprecedented in motorsport. Public funding, coaches, French championship titles, the right to race under the national flag: all of it would be at risk.

And the people who’d feel it first aren’t the officials. They’re the young drivers and the families building their 2027 season right now.

We hope French motorsport comes out of this stronger. But the lesson is the same for every racing family, in every country: a career can’t rest on one institution.

Does your driver’s 2027 depend on someone else’s decision? Take the free DriveLine Index. Link in bio.

THE ROAD TO F1 NOW NEEDS A PASSPORT. AND A BIGGER BUDGET.

F2 and F3 just revealed their 2027 calendars. F3 goes to four continents with three new venues, Jeddah, Montreal and Istanbul, and races in North America for the first time. F2 adds Istanbul and Mexico City, and Montreal returns.

The ladder to Formula 1 is now a world tour.

To be fair, the championship says it will cover freight costs, so the cars travel without hitting the teams’ budgets. That’s a real effort.

But freight is only one line on the bill. Flights, hotels, the driver coach, the parents travelling with a 17-year-old to Melbourne, Jeddah or Montreal: nobody covers that. It lands on the families.

There’s another side though. For an American, Canadian or Mexican family, the road to F1 now passes close to home. And for a sponsor, a driver in F3 in 2027 is a brand on four continents. A Canadian company can watch its driver race in Montreal. A Middle Eastern brand in Jeddah.

More expensive for families. More valuable for sponsors.

F2 and F3 already needed sponsors. A world calendar makes them more necessary, and easier to sell. The families who build the commercial case early will turn this calendar into an argument. The others will just receive the bill.

SOLD THE HOUSE. WON A GRAND PRIX. STILL NOT ENOUGH.

Esteban Ocon’s father was a mechanic in Normandy. To fund his son’s karting, the family sold their home, garage included, and lived in a caravan travelling from race to race. No academy, no safety net.

The talent was never in question. He beat Gasly and Hubert in karting, won the European F3 title ahead of Verstappen, won the Hungarian Grand Prix in 2021, and in 2022 became the first teammate to outscore Fernando Alonso since 2015.

He already lost a seat once, when a new owner took over his team in 2018. He spent a year as a reserve, came back, and won.

Now, at 30, with almost 200 starts, he calls himself « definitely a free agent. » Haas is reportedly leaning towards a Ferrari-backed rookie, with commercial considerations in the mix.

Our take: Esteban Ocon deserves a Formula 1 seat. If he loses this one, it won’t be because someone drove better. It’ll be because someone had a bigger structure behind them.

Sacrifice got him into F1. It couldn’t protect him once he was there. Sacrifice is not a plan. Structure is.

Should Ocon stay in F1? Tell us below 👇

TALENT IS NOT ENOUGH.

For a year, we’ve written it under every post. Tonight, we’re showing it.

Our first film. Five drivers, four countries, and the part of this sport nobody films: the work, the sacrifice, and everything that has to be built around talent for a career to survive.

Every kid on screen is chasing the same thing. What separates the ones who make it has never been speed alone.

This is what we believe. This is what we build.

LVMH PAYS $150M A YEAR TO BE IN F1. YOUR DRIVER CAN’T FIND €10,000.

Welcome to Paddock Economics, our new series on the business side of motorsport.

Brands have never spent more in this sport. LVMH reportedly pays around $150M a year. HP around $100M with Ferrari. Mastercard around $90M with McLaren. Luxury, tech, finance: the biggest names in the world now treat Formula 1 as one of the most valuable marketing platforms on the planet.

And they’re not paying for a logo on a car. They’re buying an audience, prestige, a story, and a season of content.

Now look one floor down. F2, F3, F4, karting: the brands disappear. Every champion on the F1 grid started in karting, and almost no brand is there to see it.

It’s not a talent problem. It’s a packaging problem. Brands don’t sponsor junior drivers because nobody gives them what they need to say yes: audience data, a clear story, measurable content, someone to talk to.

The story starts at the bottom. So does the price. The brands that arrive early own the first chapter.

Families: your driver is a brand asset. Brands: the cheapest seat in motorsport is the one before everyone notices.

THE NEXT 6 WEEKS DECIDE 2027.

Right now, companies are building their 2027 marketing plans. Late September to October is when budgets get discussed. November is when they get locked. A sponsor conversation started this week can close before Christmas. The same conversation started in December hears one sentence: “Come back next year.”

This month, families from six countries started building with us: the USA, Costa Rica, Ireland, the Philippines, the Netherlands and Italy. Different countries, same decision: don’t wait.

What they’re building before October closes: a deck written for a marketing director, a target list with real decision-makers, a digital presence that survives a Google search, a first email that answers what the brand gains, and a follow-up system that doesn’t stop after one message.

And every driver we take on gets their own build. Their deck, their targets, their story. Nothing is a template.

Talent doesn’t expire. Budgets do.

SAME SEAT. ONE HAS FERRARI BEHIND HIM. THE OTHER HAS A TROPHY.

Haas has one seat to fill for 2027, and five names on the list. Two of them are the story.

Leonardo Fornaroli, 21: Formula 3 champion, then reigning Formula 2 champion. The best junior résumé in the sport. His reward this year: no seat. A reserve role at McLaren, watching the season from the garage.

Rafael Câmara, 21: Ferrari junior, F3 champion as a rookie, seven points off the F2 lead in his first season. Genuinely quick, and backed by an F1 team that has given him serious mileage in real Formula 1 machinery this year. This is not a story about him being undeserving.

In July, reports said Haas had an agreement in principle with Fornaroli. By mid-September, paddock sources put Câmara at 90% for the seat. The timesheets didn’t flip in two months. Something else did.

Haas runs Ferrari engines and Ferrari parts, and Ferrari wants its junior placed. Toyota, Haas’s other technical partner, pushes its own candidate. McLaren, Fornaroli’s team, supplies Haas nothing. It can only offer to loan him.

The seat isn’t a ranking. It’s a negotiation between partners. And one partner has no leverage.

Two champions, one seat, and the difference is who stands behind each of them. It’s the same mechanism at every step of the ladder, from karting to F1: the structure behind a driver decides what his results are worth.

Fornaroli won everything. He is still waiting for someone to cash it in.
