Wealthy collectors don’t just hang their art. They borrow against it.

Think of it like a home equity loan, but with art. The artwork becomes collateral for a loan, the collector keeps owning it, and a painting on the wall becomes money they can use without selling it.

This is a big market. Art-secured lending is projected at $33.9B to $40B by the end of 2025, and could reach about $50B by 2027. In January 2026, Sotheby’s bundled art-backed loans into $900 million of notes, and investors lined up for them.

What it tells us: banks now treat art as real capital. And the U.S. leads this market, one reason FinArt is building there.

If you could borrow against one thing you own to fund your next big move, what would it be? Tell us below.

No one builds a new market alone. Building FinArt has taught me to build relationships first.

Long before FinArt had a name, I spent countless hours watching my uncle paint, tailors sew, and photographers, graphic artists and web designers at work. I’ve always been fascinated by the process of creating. That’s still where we start.

Three lessons on building the right ecosystem:

	1.	Trust comes before tech. You can’t build for a community you haven’t taken the time to know.
	2.	Everyone needs a seat: artists, galleries, collectors and investors.
	3.	Choose partners who were there before it was popular. Richard Beavers Gallery has championed Black and African diaspora artists in Brooklyn since 2007.

FinArt isn’t a one-person strategy. It’s a collective one.

Who’s one person whose relationship changed the direction of your business or career?

Tag them below and tell them thank you.

The next generation of collectors isn’t waiting to be invited in. They’re already here.

40% of wealthy millennials and Gen Z in the U.S. already own art, and they collect with purpose.

How they’re breaking in:

	1.	Buying straight from artists. 63% of collectors did in 2024 to 2025, up from 27% two years earlier.
	2.	Discovering new names. 66% bought work by artists they’d newly discovered.
	3.	Backing artists who’ve been overlooked.

About $1 trillion in art wealth is changing hands over the next decade, and the people inheriting it want transparency, impact and access. That’s the market FinArt is being built for.

Who’s an artist you discovered before everyone else was talking about them? Tag them below. Let’s celebrate them.

Sotheby’s just sold $900M of art-backed loans to Wall Street as bonds. 🎨📈

89 collectors. Rembrandts, Warhols, Picassos as collateral. A AAA-rated top tranche, the same rating as US government bonds.

Art just passed Wall Street’s highest test. But the room was built for collectors with $5M+ loans, Barclays, BNP Paribas, and Morgan Stanley. Not for retail investors.

That’s the gap FinArt exists to close. 👇

In 1954, Ray Kroc was a struggling 52-year-old milkshake machine salesman. He believed he’d build something big anyway.

In The Founder (2016), Kroc visits a small burger stand run by the McDonald brothers and sees a fast, simple system nobody else had. He convinces them to franchise, and grows it across America.

What his story teaches builders:

	1.	See what others overlook. They saw one great restaurant. He saw one in every town.
	2.	Declare it before you see it. Every day he played a motivational record and repeated: “Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence.”
	3.	Know the real asset. The land under each restaurant was worth more than the burgers.

The film also shows the cost: the brothers lost their name. So we’re only taking the belief and the persistence, and building FinArt so the people who create the value, the artists, share in it as it grows.

What’s the one thing you tell yourself before you step out each morning?

You keep hearing the word “tokenization.” Here’s what it means, simply.

Think of it like owning a share of a company. When you own a share, you don’t own a desk in their office. You own a part of the whole business.

Tokenizing art works the same way. The artwork stays whole, cared for and on view. A token is a digital certificate that says you own a share of its value.

It does three things for you:

	1.	Shows what you own, on a record anyone can check and no one can secretly change.
	2.	Keeps the artwork’s story: who made it, who has owned it, and where it’s been shown.
	3.	Lets you start small, with a share of a painting’s value instead of the whole thing.

What’s one investing word you’ve always nodded along to but never fully understood? Drop it below. We might explain it next.

Around $1 trillion in art and collectible wealth is expected to change hands over the next decade. (Deloitte, 2025)

Meanwhile, based on Masterworks data, contemporary art returned an average of 11.5% a year from 1995 to 2023, versus 9.6% for the S&P 500. Past returns don’t guarantee future ones, and art comes with real trade-offs: it’s illiquid and costly to hold.

The bigger question is who gets to take part in that transfer.

Swipe for the numbers. Waitlist link in bio.

Building FinArt is teaching me the art of building infrastructure. Starting with the rules.

When you buy a share of a company, a regulated system protects you. A share of an artwork deserves the same, and in January 2026 the U.S. securities regulator confirmed that tokenized securities are still securities.

Who can invest is a legal choice. Some routes are private, meaning only for the wealthy. Others open the door to everyday investors. Masterworks uses one of those public routes, but its catalogue centres blue-chip names like Basquiat and Warhol. You can admire the work. Owning a piece of the next great artist is a different door.

And what sets us apart: your money shouldn’t be frozen for a decade. FinArt starts by letting you sell your shares back to the fund at its published value. Long term, we’re building toward an exchange where you can buy and sell in real time.

Would you rather own tiny pieces of many artworks, or go all in on one artist you believe in? Many or one? Tell us below.

FinArt is not yet launched. For education only, not an investment offer.

They didn’t erase Black Wall Street by accident. It was a strategy.

300 businesses. Banks. Hospitals. Law firms. A dollar that circulated 100 times before leaving the community. Burned in 16 hours. Then buried in silence for decades.

The racial wealth gap isn’t a mystery. It’s a receipt.

History was hidden from you on purpose. Now that you know, what are you going to do about it?

We’re building FinArt : a fractional art investment platform putting real economic power behind Black and African artists. Early access is open. Link in bio.
