On this day 18 years ago, AJ made me Aunt Jess, my favorite title. It has been an absolute honor watching AJ grow into a witty, smart, thoughtful, hardworking young man who’s clearly going places.

As a small kid, he used to make me listen to “Big Green Tractor” on repeat. Now he’s out there on the real thing late at night and early in the morning. I’d happily listen to it 600 more times just to watch him grow up all over again.

I had big plans for his 18th. I had dreamed of this cool aunt moment since the day he was born. I was going to load him up with all the classic rites of passage: a pack of cigarettes, a stack of Playboys, a handful of lotto tickets, and a trip to the casino. Turns out you can sign up to serve your country but can’t legally buy a pack of smokes. Times, they are a-changing. So instead, he will have to settle for my love, my pride, and knowing that I am a phone call away if he needs anything. I’ll always have his back.

Never lose that sense of humor, that curiosity, or that work ethic, AJ. You’re gonna go far, kid. Love you always. by @goldschwager

From little red tractors on the carpet to Little Tikes around the house, four-wheelers, farm equipment, and even offering me a ride in the bucket of an excavator, Bo has been driving his whole life. That game was a big ol’ woof. It was hard attending the first OU-UNM matchup in 91 years without my favorite Lobo, @lrasmuss but when One Republic’s “I Lived” played at halftime, I knew she was with me the whole game. ❤️ by @goldschwager

Thank you for inspiring generations of women to sparkle. The past week was a dream visit to Nebraska, yet even a week wasn’t long enough. I moved away in the summer of 2010, and visited in October that year to meet my second nephew, Bo, a month after he was born. I remember crying the entire way back to Dallas. My drive today was very similar. I love my life in Oklahoma, but it’s hard when half of my heart is nine hours away. AJ turns 18 in October, Bo turns 16 in September, and Dakari is just beginning to explore this world. I am so grateful for my sisters and my brothers-in-law for letting me a part of their lives and boys’ lives, and eternally grateful for my parents’ love and support. I’m happy to be back in the 405 with Ethan and the dogs, but wishing time moved a little slower and that Oklahoma was a whole lot closer (and cooler). 🥹 by @goldschwager

A Black Keys song was the reason I knew I’d spend the rest of my life with this man. Just weeks into our relationship, Ethan played Unknown Brother for me, and said it reminded him of me and my family. A man who can acknowledge dead brother stuff early in a relationship? Easy to see how 14 years have passed and he’s still The Only One. by @goldschwager
