2002 Upper Deck Fairway Fabrics Green Tiger Woods patch autograph. Such an important piece this is considered Tiger's first patch/auto released in packs. This is the green hobby version. There is also a silver retail version. What a beautiful design.

This was a case hit if you were lucky. Some cases did not have any of these for some reason but instead had a regular non-auto fabric in its place....or nothing at all.

Saying this card is condition sensitive is an understatement. In addition to being directly touched and signed by Tiger himself, these have colored corners and edges, making it most difficult to gem. Some copies did have autograph cracking as well, so a 10 auto isn't a lock.

There is a version of this card with a Sunday red swatch, which is rumored to be less than 25 copies...it seems way scarcer than that. by @golf_card_nut

What you are looking at is a 2001 National Sports Collectors Convention VIP badge that contained the 2001 VIP Promo rookie of Tiger Woods. Also pictured is a PSA 10 version of how the label looks when holdered.

These cards were given out to VIP attendees of the 2001 NSCC. There were far fewer people at these shows than by today's standards!

There are several core Tiger Woods base cards available to collectors. There are some super rare ones not mentioned, but for base type cards, these are generally the three most collected:

~PoP counts at the time of this post~

2001 Upper Deck VIP "TW" Promo (83 PSA 10s)

2001 Upper Deck "PROMO" (269 PSA 10s)

2001 Upper Deck "#1" base (14,463 PSA 10s)

The first one, the VIP, is the featured card of this post. It was shoved into plastic badge holders and sat out unprotected for everyone to handle, so, as you can see, PSA 10s are rare! Plus, these were only available to VIPs. You can tell it is the VIP promo because the back is numbered "TW."

The next one, which I'll cover in another post, is the exact same picture/card, but on the back, it is numbered as "PROMO." These were only available in dealer promo/sell sheet folders. The card was stuck to the pamphlet by a non invasive bonding agent that could be peeled off. Although desirable, they are not as coveted as the VIP promo.

Lastly is the iconic and packed out 2001 Upper Deck Tiger Woods we all know and love. The photo is different than the promo cards. It was taken from the 2000 PGA Championship at Valhalla, where Tiger is walking a putt in and pointing down at the hole. He would eventually defeat Bob May and complete the 3rd part of what would become called the historic "Tiger Slam." by @golf_card_nut

Back in 2001, Tiger Woods mania was in full swing. Tiger had positioned himself as a transformational and multi-generational athlete. Truly a fan favorite. As such, the demand for his cards and autographs reached a fever pitch. To accommodate the demand Upper Deck partnered with Tiger Woods to make a Fan Club Card.

1st photo: this is the official response letter from Upper Deck when you wrote to Tiger Woods requesting an autograph. UD notes that they have partnered with Tiger to create the enclosed Green Fan Club card.

2nd photo: On the back of the Green Fan Club card was a unique serial number that one could enter in at www.upperdeckdigital.com and see if the card evolved into an even more valuable card.

3rd photo: If you were luckier than Charlie finding the golden ticket in the movie Willy Wonka, your Green Fan Club card would "e-volve" into an extremely limited Gold Fan Club card.

As of the time of this post, there have been only 102 of the green versions graded by PSA and BGS combined. There are zero PSA 10s, six PSA 9s and 12 BGS 9.5 making this an extremely rare card in high grade. These are colored on 8 sides and notoriously undersized so rarely submitted for grading these days.

As for the Gold Fan Club card, there have only been 43 graded by PSA and BGS combined (lots of crack outs I'm sure) with 3 PSA 10s and 8 BGS 9.5s. Upper Deck did not release the production numbers however it is generally believed that there are 100 or less.

I had previously spoken with the Carlsbad UD redemption manager (circa 2009) and he did confirm that an unknown number of green and gold were shredded due to unclaimed inventory. I have no way to confirm this 100% however I have no reason to doubt the guy.

Many collectors do not know the rarity and importance of this card... understandably so as it is very limited and rarely up for auction. 😎⛳️ by @golf_card_nut

After several years of big game hunting trying to source this , I'm happy to add this to the PC. This is a super spooky ghost of a card and Rory's very first auto ever. Most folks have never seen this before. It is an on card auto and came out in 2012 in a hockey release called The Cup. This is factory stamped #/5 . by @golf_card_nut

2001 Upper Deck eVolve Jesper Parnevik auto. This was a redemption. If you scratched the e-card (about one per box) and entered the code on upperdeckdigital.com you could watch it evolve into an autograph numbered to /100.

Jesper was well known for being a joker. This spilled over into his autographs as well. As you can see his signature is quite unique.

Pictured above in the first photo is a side by side of the front of a Jesper evolve auto. One has the normal auto on the front and the other was left blank by this prankster. For the longest time I had this blank one...what a let down.

Second photo shows the same cards but turned over. As you can see one was signed twice and my blank one has no auto on the back.

Luckily, thanks to @mikegolf20, I was able to unite the double auto Jesper with my no auto Jesper to correct Jesper's shenanigans 😆.

Cool 2001 Upper Deck error cards to have for sure. I have a few more neat ones to share in another post. by @golf_card_nut

2002 SP Game Used Golf released tons of on card buyback autos from the iconic 2001 Upper Deck and SP Authentic Golf releases. There are 45 total buybacks in the product. Legends like Faldo, Garcia, Player and of course Tiger Woods highlight the list.

In this post, you will see recreated (due to scarcity) and real photos of all 8 Tiger Woods buybacks from 2002 SP Game Used Golf. In checklists they are numbered 38 to 45 in the 2002 buyback set.

Make no mistake; Tiger autos are faked just as much as any other elite athlete. As such, I am making this post in hopes that collectors will be more informed when they make 2002 buyback purchases. In another post, I will cover specifically some fake ones that have surfaced over the years.

Most of these are ghosts locked up in private collections but you never know when one will surface!

Happy Tiger hunting and make sure to get those matching hologram cards with the buyback. by @golf_card_nut

In a previous post, I discussed the traditional Fan Club card: the 2.5" x 3.5" card that was produced in Green and evolved into a Gold card. There were also 3" x 5" Fan Club cards in Silver and 3" x 5" in Gold.

1st photo: this is the official response letter from Upper Deck when you wrote to Tiger Woods requesting an autograph. UD notes that they have partnered with Tiger to create the enclosed Fan Club card. Letter is the same except in this instance a 3x5 card is enclosed.

2nd photo: On the back of the 3x5 (silver) Fan Club card was a unique serial number that one could enter in at www.upperdeckdigital.com and see if the card evolved into an even more valuable card.

3rd & 4th photos: If you were luckier than Charlie finding the golden ticket in the movie Willy Wonka, your 3x5 silver Fan Club card would evolve into an extremely limited 3x5 Gold Fan Club card.

As of the time of this post, there have been only 27 of the 3x5 Silver versions graded by PSA and BGS combined. There are two PSA 10s and 7 BGS 9.5 making this an extremely rare card in high grade. These are oversized so they are rarely submitted for grading these days.

Side note: PSA has these classified as "silver" and "jumbo silver" in their POP report so you have to add the two entries together.

As for the 3x5 Gold Fan Club card, there have only been 21 graded by PSA and BGS combined with 2 PSA 10s and 7 BGS 9.5s. Super limited. Upper Deck did not release the production numbers however it is generally believed that there are 50 or less.

Side note: PSA has these classified as "jumbo" and "jumbo gold" in their POP report so you have to add the two entries together.

This is rarer than the regular sized fan club card but gets less love in collecting circles because it is oversized and is not as visually appealing as the regular sized Gold one.

There are many theories as to why UD even made a 3x5 card when they could have just used the regular sized ones. The prevailing one was just variety as UD had released several other 3x5 cards in 2001 for various Tiger milestones. Maybe they had some extra blank card stock? If anyone has any insight on this please LMK! ⛳️ by @golf_card_nut

Unfortunately, this is the only one I have left. This is such an epic set. It features the dual fabric dual auto of Tiger Woods as well. If you see these in the wild, best snag them quickly! by @golf_card_nut
