COA David demonstrating a takedown utilizing the Ipit ipit technique. Roughly translating as “to pinch” in Tagalog, the technique involves squeezing some part of the small joints in the hand to generate a lot of pain. This positioned the right way forces the assailant to overextend their center of gravity, thereby making the pivot step and takedown easier.

Anywho don’t try this at home. Stay tuned to watch the technique at speed!

Any progress is good progress 🙌🏽
As usual, I'm still a bit stiff and awkward. I can't wait to see what another 2 years brings.
Thanks for helping me level up @goliathstunts !

Couple of bts shots of me scouting out a spot from yesterday’s photoshoot in the springs. It’s Florida, gotta make sure there aren’t any swamp puppies nearby the models. 😁

Training Methodology: Big Pencil, Little Pencil
When a child learns how to write they start by using a thick pencil with large spaces on paper. As they practice more and more, dexterity increases and eventually you have a high school student writing essays on college ruled paper with a No.2 pencil.

In Filipino Martial Arts, part of the reason we start with a stick is to better understand gross motor movement with a large implement first. Eventually we progress to smaller implements like the knife where they are tighter and with less room for margin of error.

Progression
1: Practice entering a snake disarm to counter a mainline thrust using sticks. This defense is more in the realm of the “oh shit button” type of technique if an assailant manages to catch you off guard. Timing and sensitivity are key to understanding when to react throughout the move.

2: Swap in with a knife against unarmed. Contact and control shifts to the forearm/elbow to initiate an arm drag. Toss in some follow up whacks with the off hand to add in a bit of realism.

3: Start with a 1 cut followed by a live hand shove before going to the 5 thrust. While still planned this allows us the chance to react to different stimulus with different types of strikes at different levels before executing the main defensive technique. #Balintawak #FMA #MartialArts #Training #goliathstunts by @goliathstunts

Proud to be a part of the American Mosaic photo essay. In it my friend Arvin features children of immigrants in traditional garb set in a western setting. It seemed especially poignant given this week as certain folks bring up divisive opinions of the long established birthright citizenship as well as reflection of what this country looks like on 250 years of the American experiment. I take pride in my roots and am glad I grew up with a level of connection to them as they influence my decisions navigating a world my ancestors would have a hard time dreaming of.

S/O to my second family at Manuel’s Tavern for letting me use their location. Third pic in this post goes into more detail, but when I was hit up about this project they were my immediate first choice. While a very traditional western establishment and an iconic local Atlanta landmark, the sense of community cultivated by the Maloof family and their staff would fit right at home with Filipino hospitality.

Check out the rest of the project and everyone’s stories on the AJC’s page!

First Balintawak session of AAPI month!
Playing around with some ideas I had in mind on Sunday.

1) How to incorporate with a backfist or left handed strike as a means to close distance.
2) Taking the Group 5 pattern and breaking it apart
3) Finding opportunities to transition into and from those parts with different grouping patterns.
4) Adding in handling, bridging, and elbow butting techniques.

I’m putting lipstick on a pig in this video, but it’s given me a lot to study and mull over on my free time. S/O to my training partner DK!
