The Good Boy Foundation’s Free Microchip Program is officially up and running, and it means exactly what it says: free microchips for the dogs (and cats) in our community. 💜A microchip is one of the simplest ways to make sure a lost dog finds their way home. We chip your best friend, help you register it to your own contact information, and that tiny chip becomes a lifeline if they ever go missing. No cost, ever.This program exists in loving memory of Deuce. Starting a free microchip program for our community has been a dream of ours for years, and we are so grateful to finally watch it begin.A heartfelt thank you to our friends at @fi.tracking for helping make this possible.We would love to bring free microchipping out to community events. On March 30, 2024, I said goodbye to my soul dog, Deuce.Anyone who has loved a dog like that knows the kind of grief that follows. It’s the kind that rearranges you. I didn’t know how to survive it.What I did know was that Deuce spent his whole life helping people and dogs. He had that kind of heart. The kind that made strangers smile and made hard days softer.So I decided his love shouldn’t stop just because he was gone.On May 11, 2024, I introduced the Good Boy Foundation, created in Deuce’s honor.The Good Boy Foundation is a completely free resource for pet parents, covering everything from adoption and puppyhood to senior care and grief after loss. We share guidance, tools, and resources to help people navigate life with their dogs through the joyful moments and the impossible ones.We also fundraise to support adoption, fostering, rescue work, shelter support, freedom rides, and families facing a cancer diagnosis with their dog.Everything we do is rooted in one idea:dogs give us their whole hearts. The grief I have felt after losing my good boy Deuce has been so proud and earth-shattering, it’s been a struggle to find my purpose - or who I am without him. I realized that he gave me all of these gifts that I can continue sharing with others - knowledge of all things dog, community, love, lessons learned and kindness. Sweet Baby Panda was saved at the VERY last moment by his angels @love_my_spawn and @sailorrrsarah when he found himself about to be euthanized at SEACCA. We think he’s about 4 weeks old and potentially an American Bulldog mix (we’re gonna get him DNA tested to make sure he lands in the right home). Hims just a widdle chubby baby navigating a big scary world and he’s as perfect as he could be. Anyone who knows me knows *exactly* why I fell in love with him. He reminds me so much of my Deuce. The Good Boy Foundation will be sponsoring all of his good, healthy food until he finds his forever home. If you’d like to help with Panda’s care, donations toward his vaccines, fecal testing, flea prevention, neuter, and everything else he’ll need as he grows are always appreciated. @istandwithmypack was very close to saying no because of so many unpaid medical bills, but thanks to a foster stepping up and transport coming together, they made room for one more life, and I’m so very grateful it was him. #puppy #puppiesofinstagram #adoptdontshop #istandwithmypack by @good.boy.foundation

Good kitties Mabel & Ollie stopped by to get their free microchips the other day and were absolutely perfect for it! This 4th of July, one of the kindest things we can do is keep it quiet. 💙We love a good celebration, but fireworks come at a cost the ones we love never agreed to. They terrify dogs and cats, send panicked pets bolting from home, frighten wildlife, and can be genuinely traumatizing for the veterans in our neighborhoods. If you’re able, please consider skipping the fireworks this year. A calmer night is a safer night for everyone.And if a pet goes missing tonight, we want to help bring them home.Found a dog or cat? You can take them to any emergency veterinarian tonight to be scanned for a microchip, or message us - we’ll scan for a chip and reach out to their family to help reunite them.Not microchipped yet? Little Miss Clover was pulled from Devore shelter by and found herself with a respiratory illness while she waited for her forever home to go through. Now she urgently needs a foster home with no other dogs after she leaves the hospital in Santa Monica so she can recover before going to her forever home. We are grateful to have been her chauffeur to the hospital today. She’s a very good girl, and a very sweet potato. July is national lost pet prevention month, and here’s the truth we want you to hear: Losing a dog can happen to the most careful pet parents among us. 💜Sometimes it’s an open gate on trash day, a slipped collar, or a front door that didn’t latch while you carried in groceries. And sometimes it’s a fearful dog reacting to something that overwhelmed them - a new place, a loud noise, a stressful car ride - bolting before anyone can catch them. None of it means you did something wrong. It just means the best thing we can do is stay attentive and stack the odds in our favor. The best prevention isn’t one big thing. It’s a handful of small habits woven into everyday life, and a little extra care for the dogs who scare easily.Start at the front door, because door-darting is the number one way dogs get out. Teach a “wait” at every doorway, keep a leash hanging right there, and add a baby gate in the entryway so an open door isn’t an open invitation. Then walk your fence line the way a dog would - looking for gaps, loose boards, spots to dig under, and gate latches that don’t quite catch. Do it after storms and at the start of every season.Check your gear, too. A flat collar should fit snug, about two fingers underneath, and for walks a well-fitted harness is far harder to slip than a collar alone. Practice the two words that bring them home - a reliable “come” and a solid “wait” - and reward them every single time, so coming back is always the best thing that happens. Mind the sneaky moments: car doors at the park, handoffs to sitters and walkers, propped screen doors, a startled dog on a leash.And back it all up with id. A current tag, a microchip registered in your name, and a fresh photo on your phone give your best friend the best chance of getting home to you if they ever slip away. Some rescues are named after a mission. This one is named after a best friend. 💜@loveslegacyrescue exists because of a bulldog puppy named Love. When founder Amanda Davis lost her to an undiagnosed illness in 2021, she turned that grief into something that saves lives: a foster-based rescue pulling at-risk dogs from Southern California’s overcrowded shelters and giving them the second chance Love never got. Love’s Legacy is a small and mighty team of volunteers and the fosters who show up every single day. 100% volunteer-run, with every dollar going straight to the dogs.Now Amanda is writing the next chapter. She has begun building Love’s Legacy Ranch, a place to help even more dogs find their way home.At GBF, we understand better than most how a dog’s memory can become a mission.
