As befits the sentiment of the moment, Good Cards serenades @jackbhadley Artist, designer, educator, jeweller and Managing Director of JBH MFG Ltd., among other things. Jack’s whimsical and playful works belie thoughtful research and always a juxtaposing or mashing up of seemingly incongruous ideas to create a new piece that could only be made by Jack.

If you’ve not managed to get to Te Uru yet to see his glorious “ASSEMBLIES” you have one more week to do so, the show’s last day is 22nd February.

Meantime we love hearing about the occasions for which people have chosen to use Jack’s “Good Card” as their card of choice. We think it’s perfect for spicing up someone’s day, sharing a thought whose tone is more courageous or cheeky, than saccharine.

Good Cards are available for purchase online or at Te Uru’s gift shop.

Emma Fitts "Untitled" 2020, is a glorious contribution to the Good Cards stack. Emma says, "For me, writing a letter or card is an act of generosity, offering thought and companionship to another. Like architecture that by definition provides a social sphere for people to move through, a letter offers a platform for a social act, but it’s on a more intimate and private scale.

My practice investigates the intersection between painting, textiles and sculpture, with research that delves into a myriad of interests such as feminist histories, landscape, fashion and architecture. The exchange of letters between artists and thinkers of the past is where I find some of my most fruitful research. Emma's work is represented by Melanie Roger Gallery, K. Road, Auckland. by @goodcards.nz

John Reynolds evergreen image and words contain sentiments suitable for marking most any occasion. So glad to have “Kauri - The Judgement of Paris” 2017-2025 included in the Good Cards pack thanks John. Good Cards - fostering the art and craft of the handwritten card.

Notes on kauri (How to send a card)
First dig your hole.
A little deeper than you need.
Mix in your peat/compost planting mix and add water.
Maybe some slow-release fertiliser.
And here’s the moment, liberate your wee kauri sapling from its nursery bag, and tease the roots a little, before lowering it gently into its new terra firma.
Take your time over the final orientation of the little trunk and it’s skeletal branches, just like you chose carefully the siting of the hole it now spectacularly occupies.
Add further planting mix, tamper it down and anoint with more water.
Finally a little mulch halo to augment and protect your new winsome time bomb.
With this brazen yet humble ritual you are now a fully fledged citizen of Aotearoa, and you have just voted for the future.
Worth a celebratory message on a card, mailed that same day, to anyone, actually.

Feeling very grateful to have Cora-Allan's beautiful "Raumati Hiapo" 2021 as part of the Good Cards pack.

"Attending special Niue community events has often meant I am searching for a card to match the occasion. Koha inside a beautiful card and envelope has always made me feel more sorted. Having a professional and beautiful card isn't easy to find. The gifting of a card is a part of my art practice and I am looking forward to using these beautiful taoga when I travel sharing Aotearoa art with the world.

My work draws inspiration from my Māori and Niüean heritage. In recent years my art practice has focused on developing the art form of hiapo where I've dedicated time into re-introducing hiapo to the community as a functioning and living treasure as it once was. My work is held in art collections such as Te Papa Tongarewa, Te Paenga Hira Waka Auckland War Memorial Museum, New Beford Whaling Museum, The Chartwell Trust and most recently Te Puna Waiwhetu Christchurch Art Gallery."

To find out more about her work check out www.cora-allan.co.nz, or to get yourself some Good Cards head to www.goodcards.nz or selected retailers - Lamplight Books - Parnell, Objectspace - Grey Lynn or Frances Nation - Christchurch. taken in Auckland, New Zealand by @goodcards.nz

Judy Millar "Untitled 2020" When my mother died, I found bundles of handwritten cards my three sisters and I had sent to her from childhood to adulthood. Small things bound together with ribbon and treasured. The thankyous, the I’m sorrys, the wishes – the things in life that demand a hand-formed thought.

I still love to send handwritten notes, when they get kept and popped on the bookshelf or windowsill, sometimes framed for keeps, it’s a plus.

Judy's beautiful card, along with cards by @johnreynoldsart @jackbhadley @emmafitts @_coraallan_ are available as a boxset of 10 cards and envelopes at goodcards.nz or instore at @lamplightbooks.akl @objectspace @te_uru_shop (all located in Auckland) or @frances_nation_shop in Christchurch. by @goodcards.nz

My family love laughing at my cards. Every Christmas when we’re unwrapping presents and reading the cards out loud – mine are always the longest, and contain ‘helpful’ observations and advice. by @goodcards.nz

I love a good card. I love giving them and receiving them. I love having to decipher a person’s handwriting, sometimes as if you are unlocking a cryptic code, I love writing on beautiful paper. I have a stack of cards I’ve been given over the years beside my bedside book pile which I use as bookmarks. I love re-reading them whilst I use them to mark my place in the book I’m reading – they’re like timeless love bombs. Some cards, usually ones which have been handmade, also feature on our walls. by @goodcards.nz
