For friends and family and those who've followed the project, I know good dog Hazel has had an impact on you. For 14 years she joined me on every adventure and river trip (except the Atchafalaya). Her curiosity, playfulness, intelligence, and quiet devotion touched anyone who met her.

Hazel passed peacefully looking into my eyes as I held her at 6:05 this morning after a short health struggle. The last photo is a few hours before her death, and you can see an intelligent soulful being in those big brown eyes.

I know everyone says their dog was the best dog, but objectively Hazel was. Hazel was possibly the best PERSON I ever met.

Naturally, I feel like there is a big hole in my life, but I would rather this heartbreak than never having met her. If you will allow me one request: rather than sorrys and hollow words, I'd like to encourage you to tell a story about Hazel. taken in Cincinnati by @gooddoghazel
