My Dad told me he wanted to take me to a scenic spot above Antigua that has a big hand you can stand on and take pictures which was enough for me to be excited to go. What he failed to mention is that the hand resides within the Guatemalan Shire or Hobbitenango from Lord of The Rings(or their version they built outside of Antigua). This was completely lost on my dad and i was fully geeking out. This place is called Hobbitenago. If you're a Lord of The Rings nerd you must come here. Yet another amazing unexpected surprise 🙏🏽 taken in Hobbitenango by @goodmanachos

One of my favorite things when traveling is stumbling into unexpected experiences. My dad wanted to show me the Iximche Ruins an hour north of Antigua. The ruins were amazing but what was even cooler was stumbling into a traditional Mayan Fire ceremony. They welcomed us into the ceremony and explained how the purpose of the ceremony was to communicate with ancestors, nature elements and the cosmos. They lay out colorful flowers, candles, sugar, cacao and spices in geometric or circular patterns around the flames to give thanks, set intentions for health, gratitude or protection. The ceremony included chanting, prayers and circling the fire. It felt so serendipitous to stumble upon such a sacred ritual that was very much off the beaten path of the ruins. So much gratitude to get to experience this 🙌🏽 by @goodmanachos
