With jarring fluorescent lights that spotlight endless rows of booze, liquor stores can feel both impersonal and overwhelming. Adam Rios and Zach Hill wanted to change the alcohol shopping experience to something far more, well, spirited. This spring, the duo launched a neighborhood bottle shop and parlour, Goodnight Cowboy, on a bustling stretch of Manor Road.

Rios and Hill certainly know how to create a vibe: In fact, the two previously worked on the branding and marketing team that launched The Sphere in Las Vegas. Now based in Austin, the co-founders named their new concept after legendary Texas Ranger Charles Goodnight, giving the space a cowboy cool aesthetic that nods to the American West. The interior is thoughtfully designed with details like leather furniture, cowhide rugs, antlers, and greenery.

“We [wanted to] open a liquor store that was more warm and inviting. It’s not like a big chain. It’s not like a convenience store,” Hill says.
