thank you to rosie struve and the fine people at @oregonhumanities for the opportunity to accompany a collage and calligraphy for an essay on the rights of nature.

the prompt was something like: “if a naturalist emptied their pockets” — my response was twigs and pressed flowers, drawings of animals, a map of the waterway featured in the essay, and thanks to my neighbor’s old postage collection, a stamp that aptly says, “save wetland habitats”

from tommy’s bread subscription deliveries to the days where i was making posters for his driveway sales to our residency inside of @nosaintpdx ❤️where we met so many regulars and lovely people and new friends to the pop ups and farmers markets around town to….now! we are opening our first brick & mortar sometime in the fall of this year in beautiful downtown Milwaukie. our bldg is part of a larger renovation project wherein an antique mall got turned into 7 different units and our bakery is one of them. we have three big windows and one of them is a garage door. you can see the willamette from our front door. it’s been a dream worth the wait.

we’re getting closer to the doors opening and have some final details to iron out and well, we need some funds to do it with! tommy started a gofundme for our last chunk of money that we need to finish acquiring our equipment. so far, we haven’t had to take out loans for this endeavor and we are hoping to lean on our community to keep it that way. the link is in my bio and @babciabread if you’d like to contribute in any way.

it’s been fun to look back at everything we’ve done and thanks to the folks who emailed me pictures of your times at @babciabread. when we are behind the scenes, it’s hard to remember everything. what i do remember is that i love to be in service, making food, seeing our friends, choosing the songs, wiping up tables, welcoming you in, looking you in the eyes and hoping to memorize your name for next time.

we can’t wait to open our doors& we hope to see you there soon. we love you & we thank you.

i’d be remiss if i didn’t say how proud i am of tommy and his vision, his beautiful food, his sensibility with fruit and flavors and dough. it’s been a pleasure to watch him grow and join him in this project where both of our art forms can swirl together, and finally, have a home. by @goodsilence

sitting around the table, seeding the next seasons crops, eating in a grass field, farm as classroom, being in solidarity with our siblings in south america, cuba, palestine, beyond, the smoke and the fog and the path to the farm. agroecology forever, solidarity forever with farm workers, rural workers, peasant classes all over the world <3

it’s SEASON THREE of butterfly friend studio visits - my homemade version of @art21 ~~ just hanging out with friends and talking about ART.

when i asked around about who i should visit for S3:E1 a heap of people said TALK TO JADE.

i visited jade in her home studio and we talked about seasons and lineage and time and IS ART REALLY IMPORTANT???

i loved spending time with jade.

The longest day at Fiachra Farm: solstice lunch a la carte and a brush written banner workshop. Noon — 3pm at 3007 SE Malcolm St.

Come enjoy some of what Spring has grown, and bless in the Summer with a lunch menu by Josephine LaCosta and a calligraphy workshop by Jade Novarino. Solstice sangria will be concocted by @niteturtle via @erwineshop

The workshop is free but donations accepted as we are fundraising for a dear community member, @maggucci Maggie Irwin, as she raises money for medical expenses. 50% of lunch proceeds after cost will also go towards Maggie’s fundraiser.

No pets. Bring your own blankets or seats to sit around the farm 🌞

mariah got a lot of us (20 or so of us?) all in a room a couple of weeks ago and asked us to make some work from the same still life arrangement. these works will be on display on may 30th at @asometimesgallery and also for sale, one night only! the works are $55 each and all of the money goes to the portland immigration rights coalition.

i’m honored to be a part, because as an artist who is often too cerebral, i question the importance of art all too often — doubting its power and its purpose. these insecurities arise on bad days, when the ego takes control of the mind. i know in my soul/heart that art has a purpose, duh, but it feels really good to put the art to work, to make beauty to turn into action to turn into support and solidarity. thanks to mariah for the opportunity and here’s to hoping y’all can go support it. by @goodsilence
