On Monday, October 5, GoodWeave co-organized “Solving Global Child Labor with Compassion” at American University’s School of International Service in Washington, D.C., featuring our founder and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Kailash Satyarthi.

The event brought together more than 100 attendees for a keynote address by Kailash, who then joined our CEO Jon Jacoby and Tim Ryan, chairman of Global March Against Child Labour, for a panel discussion moderated by Judy Gearhart of American University Accountability Research Center.

The discussion highlighted progress in reducing child labor worldwide and the need to accelerate efforts to end it. Kailash emphasized the knowledge, resources, and legal frameworks are already in place, calling for greater urgency and moral responsibility.

The event was co-sponsored by American University’s School of International Service, the National Consumers League, the Child Labor Coalition, and the Satyarthi Movement for Global Compassion.

Earlier today, our short documentary film Weaving Hope, directed by Rujuta Doshi, was screened at Docs by the Sea in Bali, Indonesia. It was among 16 films featured at the forum, with approximately 130 participants attending the film screenings.

Weaving Hope follows Seema, a field facilitator in rural Rajasthan, India, whose work with families and children offers a window into GoodWeave’s community-based approach to preventing child labor, expanding educational opportunities, and empowering girls.

Organized annually by In Docs the four-day forum brought together documentary filmmakers, industry professionals, and representatives from organizations to exchange ideas and explore how documentary storytelling can bring greater visibility to community experiences and solutions to social challenges.

GoodWeave India Community Monitoring Manager Ram Swaroop Gurjar participated in the forum, joining the conversation around community storytelling and collaboration between filmmakers and organizations, including opportunities to strengthen partnerships and develop more structured approaches to working together.
