West Chester Fire Department Mourns the Loss of PSP Corporal Timothy O’Connor

West Chester, PA – The members of the First West Chester Fire Company and the entire West Chester Fire Department join our brothers and sisters in the Pennsylvania State Police in mourning the death of Corporal Timothy O’Connor, who was killed in the line of duty on March 8, 2026, while protecting the citizens of Chester County.

Corporal O’Connor joined the West Chester Fire Department in 2003 as a member of the First West Chester Fire Company. During his time with the department, he served his community with the same courage, commitment, and compassion that would later define his career as a Pennsylvania State Trooper.

Tim exemplified what it meant to be a selfless public servant. His dedication to helping others and his unwavering commitment to public safety were evident to all who had the privilege of knowing and serving alongside him.

The members of the First West Chester Fire Company extend their deepest condolences to Tim’s family, friends, and his brothers and sisters in the Pennsylvania State Police during this difficult time. We mourn alongside them and honor his service and sacrifice.
Corporal O’Connor’s legacy of service will never be forgotten. by @goodwillfc52

The Good Will Fire Co. No. 2 regrets to announce the passing of former Lieutenant John Smiley. John passed after a long-fought battle with cancer on November 29, 2025. He joined the ranks of the West Chester Fire Department in 1978 as a firefighter with the Fame Fire Co. No. 3 @famefirewc , before joining the Good Will Fire Company in 1984. Upon becoming a member of Good Will, John became very active as one of the company’s top responders, before being elected as a Lieutenant. He then remained active until the late 1990’s, when he relocated to Exton, where he then served with the West Whiteland Fire Company @the6house , also climbing to the rank of Lieutenant in their organization.

John spent majority of his life serving the public, as a firefighter in Chester County, but also as an EMT in Delaware County, at Riddle Memorial Hospital for 27 years. He served the community along side of his brother’s; Patrick with the Fame Fire Company and Past Chief David Smiley of the Good Will Fire Company. His nephews Rick, Patrick, David, and Alfred also followed in his footsteps, joining the ranks of the West Chester Fire Department over the years. He was well known in the first responder communities of Chester and Delaware Counties, and will be dearly missed by his family and colleagues. by @goodwillfc52

Something exciting’s coming soon... On 12/6, Santa is coming to our fire house, and throwing a party! To celebrate, we’ll have music, crafts, fire trucks, and of course...pictures with Santa!

Digital photos from a photographer will be emailed to you directly same-day.

Any donations received will benefit the Good Will Fire Co. firefighters as they continue their training and work hard to serve you this holiday season. We can’t wait to see you there, and wish you safe and happy holidays! taken in Good Will Fire Company #2 of West Chester by @goodwillfc52
