Football is Freedom, Football is Life ⚽️ on a real note i’m very lucky to have met so many amazing people through the game and be apart of this football community and culture here in Houston this past year. The game that truly unites people no matter where you are from or what language you speak. I’m grateful for adidas letting me be Original to host and put on many football events in Houston with and for the community. Ghana 🇬🇭 2026
Africa, the birthplace of Humanity. It’s hard to dismiss what’s going on in our country and in my hometown of Minneapolis right now. a beautiful place, a vibrant city yet a warzone of unlawful violence and discrimination. This month I had the opportunity to travel to Ghana and be part of something special with the @behappy.inc foundation. This was more than just donating necessities to communities and schools in Ghana. To me it was about learning and connecting culture and community through sport, art, dance and food. I felt the love and the rains in Africa. I felt welcomed and cherished by the people of Ghana. I felt happy. However, I can’t pretend that everything was all sunshine and rainbows because in reality for how happy the people and kids are, majority of them are living in harsh conditions that for me personally is hard to relate to. I learned a lot through my travels and seeing what’s going on in Minneapolis that if we come together as one we can create true change for a better future. In 2026 I’m committed to supporting my community and I’m committed to continue to help the schools and communities in Konongo, Ghana. The goal is to donate more computers, school supplies, clothes, soccer equipment, and build another water well in the town. if you feel inclined to help out or donate check out @behappy.inc 🇬🇭 one love 💚💛♥️ by @gopher_pat98

9 years ago I was just a small skinny brown kid who lacked confidence in himself. I struggled to find my identity as a young kid because the system I grew up in discriminated me and my friends. The odds of me graduating and getting a higher education were stacked against me and I never thought that I was capable of achieving that because I never saw many successful and educated black/brown athletes around me growing up. Then I found the sport of Track/Field and my life would forever change. Growing up I noticed pretty quickly that I was very talented in running but I never truly loved it as a kid. I viewed running as my golden ticket to get into college because I never had the grades nor the test scores to get into a good institution. Then I received a scholarship to run at the University of Minnesota where I met some of the best teammates and friends I could ask for. Although my time as an athlete at the U of M was short lived, I’m glad that I had the privilege to run and train with those guys. Walking away from the sport in 2019 was the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do and I never thought that I’d ever come back to it. I’m glad I decided to take a break from running because it showed me how much I needed running in my life. My journey in this sport has been an up and down roller coaster and for those of you who really know me, know that sacrificing my potential in the sport to focus on my mental health, my career and my family was more important than any race, accolade or performance. In early 2022 I met some incredible athletes who again would change my life for the better. I started coaching highschool Track/Field in Canby, Oregon and the athletes I got to coach helped me see how fun running can be. Without them I wouldn’t have gone back to school for a graduate degree and I certainly wouldn’t have made a return to collegiate running. I am so proud of everything that I’ve accomplished and the effort I made returning to this sport because it was not easy. I would like to thank everyone I got the chance to train, coach and race with. Y’all truly made me a better person. I’m still writing ✍🏾 my story but I’m content with ending this chapter. Lately I’ve been on some Last Chance U grind. After some time away from the sport (4 years), I decided to come out of retirement and go back to D1 Running. I am going to prove myself, my athletes and to any doubters that it’s never to late to chase your wildest dreams. It’s never to late to make a comeback. That when you do something once, you can always do it again.

I would first like to thank my athletes that I coached in Canby, OR. You inspired me and showed me how fun this sport can be. You guys are the biggest reason why I decided to embark on this journey. I’d like to thank my family, friends and teammates for always sticking with me even when I decided to hang up the spikes in the beginning of 2019. Lastly, I’d like to thank @psuvikstf for believing that I still have what it takes to make myself as an athlete, and this program shine. Thank you for an amazing Track/Field season. You are my first group of athletes that I have ever coached and I will always hold a special place in my heart for this group. I couldn’t be more proud of what we were able to accomplish this season. Thank you for believing in me and trusting in my philosophy on training as I have believed in each and every one of you. You have inspired me more than you know and I hope I have done the same for you all. To say I helped coach an 800m state champion, 3 new distance school records, multiple breakout personal record performances all across the board and a 4th place team finish at the state meet with our jumpers putting Canby on their back. This was a team effort and the credit goes to all of you athletes that put in the hard work behind the scenes.
