Most chronic illness treatment aims to stop what the body is doing. Blocking inflammation. Suppressing symptoms. Quieting signals that won't turn off.

Dr. Robert Naviaux's research points the other way. He joins Dr. Eric Gordon on the latest episode of the Gordon Medical Forum podcast, Cell Danger Response the Future of Chronic Care, to explain the Cell Danger Response, which sees chronic illness as a healing cycle that got stuck, not damage to be fixed.

The entire library of Gordon Medical Forum events is $37 per event through October (regularly $67).

Over the past two years, we've brought together clinicians and researchers to look at how these pieces connect in complex chronic illness, from toxins, MCAS, and mold to Long COVID, ME/CFS, peptides and cutting-edge treatments, and the role of structure, inflammation, and the nervous system. The entire library of expert events can be found in the Gordon Medical Forum Store, so you can start with what matters most to you and go from there.

For a small subset of people, POTS is strictly a heart issue.

For most people living with chronic illness, POTS is a combination of forces: a stretchy venous system (common with hypermobile EDS) that lets blood pool below the heart, a vagus nerve that is not keeping the heart's brakes on, and an autonomic nervous system (ANS) thrown off balance by adrenaline, mast cell activation, and autoantibodies.

The heart is responding to its environment. That's why our physicians look past the heart to the inflammation and nervous system dysregulation underneath POTS and dysautonomia, including in Long COVID and ME/CFS.

Many of the patients we see tell us the same thing. They’ve followed protocols, diets, supplements, and labs from more than one practitioner. They’re better than they were. But the fatigue, brain fog, digestive problems, or growing sensitivities haven’t fully resolved.

At Gordon Medical, this is why we start with the nervous system.

Your nervous system is constantly asking one question: “Is it safe here?" When the answer is “not safe,” the body stops prioritizing digestion, repair, and immune balance, the very things your treatment has been working to support.

Your treatments weren’t necessarily wrong. The body may simply need to be ready to receive them.

And the goal isn’t simply calm. It’s capacity.

On October 8th, Dr. Eric Gordon and Michael Roesslein will lead a special Gordon Medical Forum workshop, The Nervous System: The Missing Variable in Complex Cases.

They’ll explore how to recognize dysregulation, understand what your nervous system needs, and support it in a way that actually fits you.

If you’ve improved but still feel stuck, and you’re looking for an explanation that finally fits, we’d love to have you join us.

Inflammation is a common thread in many chronic conditions, making molecular hydrogen an interesting area of ongoing research. Studies are exploring its potential effects on inflammation, mitochondrial function, and cellular energy production.

Recently, Ben Tammetta of H2BioHacker joined Dr. Eric Gordon to discuss what makes hydrogen therapy so interesting, where the research is headed, and practical considerations for getting started.

For patients with Lyme and tick-borne illness, plasmapheresis, peptides, and bioregulators are best understood as tools within a broader process of care.

Dr. Eric Gordon and Dr. Nafysa Parpia will be presenting at the Tick-Borne Illness Global Summit, live October 8th through 11th.

Dr. Gordon will discuss how plasmapheresis may help restore more optimal immune function by removing inflammatory mediators and immune complexes from the bloodstream.

Dr. Parpia will explore how peptides and bioregulators can support a broader healing protocol and help patients move beyond symptom management toward more complete recovery.

Tristan Harris compares AI to oil in a country like Venezuela. When a resource becomes so valuable it accounts for most of a country's GDP, that country stops investing in its people, their education, their health, their creativity, because the return isn't coming from them anymore.

He calls this the "intelligence curse," and he thinks it's already starting to play out with AI. If 50% of GDP comes from data centers instead of people, why would a government keep funding healthcare or education?

This isn't our normal topic on Gordon Medical, but we couldn't sit this one out. Dr. Eric Gordon and Dr. Nafysa Parpia dig into the current landscape of AI with Tristan, co-founder of the Center for Humane Technology, on this episode.

@tristanharris put it plainly on this episode of the Gordon Medical Forum Podcast. The same AI that knows biology well enough to invent a new cancer drug is the same AI that knows biology well enough to invent a new pathogen. You can't separate one from the other.

That's the tension sitting underneath every AI headline about medical breakthroughs right now, and it's exactly why Dr. Eric Gordon and Dr. Nafysa Parpia wanted to talk with Tristan, co-founder of the Center for Humane Technology, on this episode.
