📍Swallow Falls 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿
10/06/24

Swallow Falls (Welsh: Rhaeadr y Wennol; ‘the waterfall of the swallow’; or Rhaeadr Ewynnol; ‘the foaming waterfall’) is a multiple waterfall system in Wales, on the River Llugwy near Betws-y-Coed in Conwy County Borough.

The name Rhaeadr y Wennol (Welsh for ‘the waterfall of the swallow’) derives from the fact that the flow of the river is separated by a prominent rock into two streams of water that look like a swallow’s tail. The similar sounding Rhaeadr Ewynnol (Welsh for ‘the foaming waterfall’) is a later coinage based on the adjective ewynnol ‘foaming’, which itself seems to have been coined at the end of the eighteenth century.
It has been suggested that this name was ‘prompted by a desire to demonstrate Welsh linguistic ownership of a popular tourist attraction and a concern that Rhaeadr y Wennol would be perceived as a deferential translation of what came to be the better known name Swallow Falls’. The name, in its variant forms, is attested from the 1770s onwards.

Local legend says that Swallow Falls is haunted by the ghost of Sir John Wynn of Gwydir, a cruel 16th-century aristocrat.
Paranormal reports and local lore claim that the apparition of Sir John Wynn can be seen roaming the footpaths and paths near the waterfall in the dark.
Sir John Wynn belonged to the influential and ruthless Wynn family who built nearby Gwydir Castle—a location widely reputed to be one of the most haunted houses in Wales.

📍Aberystwyth 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿
07/06/24

It is a university and seaside town and a community in Ceredigion, Wales.
Located in the historic county of Cardiganshire, Aberystwyth means “the mouth of the Ystwyth”. It has been a major educational location in Wales since the establishment of University College Wales, now Aberystwyth University, in 1872.
The town is situated on Cardigan Bay on the west coast of Wales, near the confluence of the River Ystwyth and Afon Rheidol. Following the reconstruction of the harbour, the Ystwyth skirts the town. The Rheidol passes through the town. The seafront, with a pier, stretches from Constitution Hill at the north end of the Promenade to the harbour at the south. The beach is divided by the castle.

In July of 1826, a party of twelve people had ventured part way up Constitution Hill at the top end of North Promenade. Looking down onto the beach below, the twelve people could see a beautiful young woman with creamy pale skin washing herself in the calm summer sea. It was only on looking closer at the half naked woman that they could see what looked like a black tail flicking at the waters surface where her legs should be.

There have been a number of sightings of a woman dressed in old style clothing roaming about on Constitution Hill. One sighting saw the woman playing in the games room at the top of the hill. When approached, the woman left the games room and headed for the edge of the cliff, where she promptly disappeared from view. Around the same time another woman of a similar description was seen floating down the grassy banks in the direction of Clarach. The figure then disappeared as she reached the edge of the woods by Clarach Bay.

📍Llangrannog 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿
07/06/24

Llangrannog (sometimes spelt as Llangranog) is a village and community in Ceredigion, Wales, 6 miles (10 km) southwest of New Quay. It lies in the narrow valley of the River Hawen, which falls as a waterfall near the middle of the village. Llangrannog is on the Wales Coast Path. The community contains the hamlet Pigeonsford.

The large rock between Llangrannog and Cilborth Beaches is Carreg Bica, a stack of Ordovician rock weathered by the sea, one of many along the coastline. A large piece of Carreg Bica fell away some years ago. Two streams flow down the beach to the sea - the Hawen and the smaller Nant Eisteddfa. There is a waterfall on the Hawen, known as Y Gerwn. Located within the community is the tiny island of Ynys Lochtyn.

According to legend, Carreg Bica (trans: Bica’s rock)—the large sea-weathered stack of Ordovician rock on the beach—is the tooth of the giant Bica. He lived in Ceredigion and was forced to spit his tooth onto the beach when suffering a bad toothache. A simpler explanation is that the Welsh word Pica means pointed and after a feminine singular noun this would become Bica. So the rock’s name is just Pointed Rock in Welsh.

📍Tresaith Waterfall 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

It is created by the River Saith, which was diverted from its original route during the last Ice Age by glacial activity. The river now cascades over the cliffs and directly onto Tresaith Beach, creating the unusual setting that makes this waterfall so special.

📍Tromsø Domkirke 🇳🇴
06/12/24

Tromsø Cathedral (Norwegian: Tromsø domkirke) is a cathedral of the Church of Norway located in the city of Tromsø in Tromsø Municipality in Troms county, Norway. This cathedral is notable since it is the only Norwegian Protestant cathedral made of wood.
The yellow, wooden cathedral was built in a long church format and the Gothic Revival style in 1861 by the architect Christian Heinrich Grosch. The church tower and main entrance are on the west front. It is probably the northernmost Protestant cathedral in the world. With over 600 seats, it is one of Norway’s most significant wooden churches. It initially held about 984 seats, but many benches and seats have been removed over the years to make room for tables in the back of the church.

📍Tromsø gravlunds kapell 🇳🇴
06/12/24

Tromsø Cemetery is situated on the east facing slope above the city centre from where the street Kirkegårdsvegen (kirkegård = churchyard) leads to the cemetery. The chapel stands on the west side of the lower avenue and is easily seen from the main gate on Kirkegårdsvegen.

The chapel is a wooden building and the exterior is painted in three colours: light ochre cladding with green and red used on doors, windows, surrounds and corners as well as a grid of horizontal and vertical decorative details. All the windows have semicircular arches. Slate is the main roofing material and on top of the pitched roof sits a square turret with a spire. These as well as the former ridge board may be associated with the stave churches. The early 20th century was a time with many patriotic ideals in Norwegian architecture and the stave churches were an obvious source of inspiration.
