Today is the long-awaited day: Every Little Thing You Do Is Magic, both the book and the tarot deck, are now on sale and ✨on shelves✨ everywhere!

This project began as a text sent in the isolation of the pandemic and quickly grew into an exercise in creativity, spirituality, and friendship. It took us four years to get to this point, and the road included plenty of curves and switchbacks. But it all started with us two, and then came our first ever champion: our agent, @lindsay_edgecombe at @lgrlit. She has been our rock through everything, the compass in the storm, and she’s a cool, beautiful, lovely human being we are incredibly fortunate to have by our side.

The first publisher who was interested asked us to change direction five times before ultimately deciding they weren’t prepared to make a tarot deck, but then @saranev basically said “hold my beer” (probably more likely Prosecco or seltzer) and slid into the original DMs— our email. She’d heard about the project through the grapevine and wanted it. We met our design soulmate @danielle.d.deschenes who took our art and words and made them into stunning products, and then @sclementines helped us polish everything to a shine. Finally, @deannegrams and @caryeh got us prepped and ready and here we are, all of us a team who made this project come to life. I know there are so many people behind the scenes at our publisher @clarksonpotter + @penguinrandomhouse who I’ve not named here because to make a book (or a tarot deck) is an enormous endeavor that goes through countless hands and minds before it ever graces a sales page. I wish I knew the names of every single person who made this possible. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

For those who’ve placed pre-orders, I cannot wait for you to open your bookmail today! And for those who go out and buy it from your local indie shop— bless you. Bookstores are one of the most sacred places and supporting them is supporting the community as a whole.

Whoops— I’ve peaked! 🤩 ultra special Slavic Baba Yaga hut on this beautiful Solstice for my fellow Slavic witch, Lisa ❤️ When they reached out to request this, it was like a dream come true; I’ve been wanting to draw a Baba hut for a while but needed a reason to. Once the drawing was complete, I kept looking at it and thinking “I really drew that??? Two years ago, we released Every Little Thing You Do Is Magic, our tarot deck and interactive workbook centered around self-care and building a sacred ritual for reflection and healing. Today, we’ve sold 61.7k copies worldwide, and a few months ago we got to narrate our very own audiobook of a whole new version of the book made rich with intentionality and immersive elements with everyone—including folks who are blind—in mind. Because shouldn’t absolutely everyone have access to the magic of tarot? That’s why the entire book features fonts which are easily read regardless of a person’s word processing abilities—it’s completely dyslexia-friendly. And gender? Nah. Not for tarot. We’ve included a section explaining why we decided our queer-made tarot deck didn’t need queens and kings, and why it court system has been renamed Apprentice, Champion, Oracle, and Elder instead.

Getting to write half of this project and illustrate the cards while @mooreaseal wrote the other half and collaged it all together was such a dream come true. Every part of this project has been my favorite thing I’ve done professionally, and I am profoundly grateful for the warm reception from you all.

If you haven’t gotten a copy yet and you’re in Seattle, my neighborhood bookshop @thirdplacebooks has plenty, and our pals at @charliesqueerbooks keep it stocked, too! While it’s available in most major bookstores, I encourage you to shop small and support independent booksellers. They are one of our greatest hubs for knowledge and SUCH a magnet for good people. Go hang out at bookstores! Buy books! Be nice to workers! And read some tarot ✨

Annual trade with @dustywynn_ ❤️ I read her tarot, she makes my hair perfection, I nearly fall asleep in her chair from being so relaxed.

If you love a shag/mullet/wolf cut/textured situation, Dusty is amazing with all hair textures. I have a million little cowlicks and two different curl patterns, and she manages to make them look so much more cohesive and sculptural. Plus, her products smell incredible and I leave with gorgeous, soft hair that looks so good from day one. by @goshcallie

One of my favorite ways to create tattoos is when folks have an idea or a list of inspiration and hand over free reign to create whatever feels like the right fit. Yesterday I had the pleasure of talking to someone who is hoping to get a beautiful thigh piece soon and wondering that kind of prompt feels too open-ended—absolutely not!

I think artists make some of greatest work under a few conditions. One is when we have constraints and are pushed to try something new, and another is when we’re free to create whatever we are most inspired to make.

Whether you have a particular idea or an open-ended one, I’m excited to work together and make the tattoo of your dreams.

Added this sweet milkweed, chrysalis, monarch, mushroom duo and pinecone to my sweet pal Lynsey’s forearm botanical wrap this week.

Lynsey and I met at a recruitment event for the pediatric oncology camp we both volunteer at—this was my first year as a counselor and bereavement support, and she’s been one of the nurses for many years. We connected so magically at that recruitment event, but it’s hard not to with her since she’s sunshine in human form. It was a beautiful surprise that she was assigned to my cabin, and so each morning and evening, she’d come around to my kiddos and give them their chemo while I brushed their hair and poured their juice. It is such a special, beautiful experience to share with another person who can feel all depth and love of that place and those beings. And so, it’s an extra special honor to get to be Lynsey’s first tattoo artist.

She’s given me free rein in creating this ongoing PNW botanical piece, and I chose milkweed as this most recent addition because it is the monarch’s favorite flower. Something so nurturing to such beautiful creatures felt exactly like what this earth angel needed.
