Leading the University of San Diego is one of the great privileges of my life. After much reflection on our journey and future, I have decided the time has come for me to complete my tenure as President of USD in 2027. To ensure that we continue to enjoy the positive momentum we have at this moment in our university’s history, I have assured the Board of Trustees that I am committed to remaining in office through the completion of the presidential search process.

Any accomplishments, milestones or triumphs we have celebrated during my tenure belong to the collective efforts, shared sacrifice and tireless work of our exceptional faculty, outstanding staff and dedicated administrators. We have also been blessed by the wise leadership of our board and the generosity of our benefactors, as well as the love and support of our alumni and friends. Together we have accomplished so much and our university is well positioned for the future.

While my chapter as your president is coming to an end, my dedication to this extraordinary academic community remains steadfast. My journey in education began over 45 years ago as a teacher, and, following a sabbatical, I look forward to my next chapter returning to teaching and writing as a USD faculty member. As the proud parents of two USD graduates, Zachary and Braden, my wife Mary and I will always cherish this university and do our best to personally live out its vision to foster peace, work for justice and lead with love.
