I am so honored and humbled to have received two honorary doctorates yesterday from two of Utah’s fine Universities; @dixiestate and @utah.valley.university. My sincere thanks to Presidents Williams and Tuminez and their board of trustees. Not a bad way to celebrate my 74th birthday! by @governorherbert

It has been the honor of a lifetime to be able to serve the people of Utah as governor for the past eleven and a half years. In this role, I have had the unique responsibility to try and make the best decisions on behalf of all Utahns — and I will also remember the unique opportunity I have had to observe Utahns working side by side to make this the best place to live, to work, and to raise a family. I am inspired by the efforts and brotherly kindness of my fellow Utahns. Thank you for your love, your support, and your prayers.

As I leave office today, I know Spencer and Abby Cox will be tremendous leaders, and that together, they will take our state to new heights. God bless you all, and God bless the great state of Utah. by @governorherbert

Serving as governor of Utah for the past 11 and a half years has been the honor and privilege of my professional life. During my service, I have had the opportunity to work with so many outstanding people and extraordinary leaders. I am proud to be the governor of people who toil and sacrifice, people who are hard working and friendly. Good people who truly care about their neighbors and the well being of others.

I possess great hope and expectations for our great state. Utah is and can continue to be that beacon of light and hope for others to look up to and to learn from. I love this state. I love the good people of this state. It has been the greatest honor imaginable for me to be able to serve you.

Thank you and God bless the great state of Utah. by @governorherbert

Today I was proud to join several state leaders and leaders from our multicultural communities to sign a compact on Racial Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion. By signing this compact, we are signifying as policymakers and influencers our commitment to do what we can to establish a more racially equitable state.

Each of us must make a commitment to foster cultures of inclusion and advance behavior on an individual, governmental, and business level to create equal opportunity and access for all. I believe that by advancing this cause, we are better suited as a state to tackle some of our most formidable challenges.

I hope Utahns will take the opportunity to incorporate some of these goals into their own lives and join the effort to create equal opportunity. Every one of us can and should be doing better. And I know we will.

It was good to be in D.C. today for meetings with Congress and federal leaders on a variety of topics. We’re blessed with members of Congress who work hard and represent Utah well, and it’s been my pleasure to work closely with them throughout my tenure. Between meetings we visited the beautiful Washington Monument, which contains two stones from Utah, one we contributed when we were a territory and another when we became a state.  It’s one of many reminders in DC that the states built the nation, not the other way around. taken in Washington Monument by @governorherbert

Happy Thanksgiving from the Herbert family! I want to wish all Utahns a happy, safe, and healthy holiday. Undoubtedly, the pandemic has brought unique challenges into each of our lives. Despite this reality, I know we still have much to be thankful for.

I am thankful for my wonderful family, whose unwavering support has been a blessing in my life. The experience of raising children alongside my exceptional wife, Jeanette, has been one of my greatest joys. I am eternally grateful for their love and support.

It is my hope that all Utahns can experience this holiday season as a time of help and a time of hope. I truly believe we live in the greatest country in the world and the greatest state in the country here in Utah. So let’s show our gratitude this holiday season by finding ways to serve our neighbors.

Despite the many challenges we are facing, I have been reflecting this week on the many things we have to be grateful for.

I have appreciated the people of Utah demonstrating their patience and desire to help one another during difficult times.

I am also deeply grateful for Utah's healthcare workforce — our doctors, nurses, cleaning staff, social workers, and many others. They are modern heroes and we owe them our thanks and best efforts to make their jobs easier.

Additionally, the valiant efforts of school teachers during the pandemic should not go unnoticed. I am grateful for their creativity and dedication to ensure our kids stay engaged in the pursuit of learning. Now more than ever, we value their remarkable expertise and commitment.

The pandemic has put a strain on each of our lives in unique ways. But it also has given us opportunities to grow and flourish in our appreciation for our fellow man.

I want to challenge all Utahns today to commit to being “All In” with our fight against the coronavirus. As we have seen case counts spike over the last several weeks, it has become imperative that we work together to slow the spread.

By not taking proper precautions like wearing a mask, physical distancing, and limiting your social interactions, you could be spreading the virus and endangering our hospital resources. In committing to being all in now, you are helping to hasten our return to normal.

So let’s each give our all in order to beat this pandemic. by @governorherbert

Today I was grateful to participate in my annual Awards for Excellence Ceremony. Each year, we recognize state employees who go above and beyond the usual call of service in remarkable ways.

Even though this year’s ceremony was virtual, it was still a privilege to recognize all of the outstanding recipients, and their awards were no less meaningful. With the challenges we have faced this year as a state, their efforts have been more important than ever.

We are blessed to have some of the best public servants in the nation, and I greatly appreciate and enjoy working alongside such dedicated and distinguished individuals. by @governorherbert

While I expected to be attending our Economic and Energy Summit today in-person, I believe we all must be making sacrifices to reverse our current situation.

As we have experienced some of our highest case counts of the pandemic over the last several days, our hospitals are facing immense pressure. It is more important than ever that we each make the decision to do our part in limiting the spread of coronavirus.

But even in this somber time, there are still silver linings. Our strong and diverse economy prior to the pandemic has us well-positioned to recover quicker than most. The sound principles which have guided our state through challenges in the past will also guide us through our current predicament.

In my message to those attending our virtual conference, I reiterated my strong belief in Utah. May we all stay safe, stay healthy and work together to get us back on track. by @governorherbert

It was my pleasure this morning to interact with our media partners during my monthly news conference. Maintaining transparency during this pandemic is of utmost importance. Local news media outlets play an important role in ensuring the public is well informed, and I am thankful for the work they do.

In an age where the veracity of the media is constantly called into question, I am glad we have such outstanding reporters and good relationships with the media here in Utah. taken in Utah State Capitol by @governorherbert
