Help make possibilities come to life through your gift to the WES Annual Fund. The WES we know today did not simply happen. Generations of people chose to invest in this school and leave it stronger for those who followed. Now, it is our turn. Today marks the launch of the 2026–2027 WES Annual Fund: Possibilities Every Day. As we celebrated forty years together this weekend, stories from across generations reminded us of what endures: children known deeply and a community that stays with them long after they leave. The Annual Fund helps carry that promise forward. It supports the educators who know our children so well, strengthens the programs that spark their curiosity, expands access to a WES education, and makes daily learning experiences possible. Last year, 80% of current families participated. This year, we hope even more will join us in supporting the possibilities our children experience every day. As WES enters its next decade, help write the next chapter for the children here now and those still to come. Make your Annual Fund gift or pledge by November 13 through the link in our bio. #WashingtonEpiscopalSchool #PossibilitiesEveryDay #WESAnnualFund #WESCommunity by @gowesdragons
Halloween may be tomorrow, but our Dragons were ready to celebrate today! 🎃 Hulk “Vogelman” led the procession alongside PK3, who carried the flag to mark the beginning of our Halloween Parade! Thank you to everyone who voted earlier this week and helped choose Mr. Vogelman’s costume. It was such a treat to see him bring your pick to life! 💪 Our students and educators showed off their costumes as we celebrated this special WES tradition together. We’re Dragons every day, but today we got to see a little more of everyone’s imagination at play! The excitement continued with the announcement of this year’s Grade 6 musical, Disney’s Aladdin JR.! 🧞 Talk about a half-day with plenty to celebrate! Our cross country Dragons took to the course at yesterday’s Norwood Invitational! 🐉 The Grades 5–8 coed team joined runners from eight other schools for a great day of racing. Huge congratulations to our girls’ team for finishing first and to our boys’ team for placing fourth overall! We’re so proud of both teams for their effort on a challenging two-mile course. Thank you to @norwoodschoolbethesda for hosting a great meet, and to our coaches and parents for supporting our runners throughout the season! #WashingtonEpiscopalSchool #GOWESDragons #CrossCountry by @gowesdragons
Kindergarten had a special visitor today! 🎃 With Halloween just two days away, clues left around the classroom by their teachers had our kindergarteners eagerly awaiting Miss Witch’s arrival. When she finally appeared, they were ready with a surprise of their own: a special song prepared just for her! Then it was time to stir up some witches’ brew, with a little help from our kindergarten Dragons. They helped Miss Witch get the proportions just right, adding witches’ warts (chocolate chips), bat brains (popcorn), skeleton bones (pretzels), ghost droppings (marshmallows), and even mummy toenails (candy corn)! Before hopping back on her broom, Miss Witch answered the children’s burning questions about her magical adventures. There was plenty they wanted to know before she flew away! Thank you, Miss Witch, for making this Halloween tradition such a magical afternoon for our kindergarten Dragons. Until next year! 🧹 by @gowesdragons
Today was an incredibly special day at Washington Episcopal School as we celebrated the installation of The Reverend Emily Elder as our School Chaplain! With Assisting Bishop Eugene Taylor Sutton presiding, our WES community gathered for a beautiful chapel service honoring Rev. Emily and all that she means to our school. During the service, representatives of our WES student body, parent community, and Board of Trustees presented Chaplain Emily with symbolic gifts, including a tippet symbolizing her ministry and a set of building blocks representing the foundation of faith and community she helps build for our community. What made today even more special was getting to celebrate Chaplain Emily right here at WES, surrounded by the students and families whose lives she touches every day. Chaplain Emily, we couldn’t be prouder of you! We are so lucky to have you as our chaplain, and so grateful for the warmth and care you bring to our school. Congratulations! 💙 . . . There’s a certain magic to the beginning of a child’s school journey, and on Saturday, our future Dragons got a glimpse of what that can look like at Washington Episcopal School. Discovery Day welcomed prospective Early Childhood families to campus for hands-on learning, classroom exploration, and time with the teachers who make our youngest learners feel known, supported, and excited to discover what comes next. A heartfelt thank you to our student and parent ambassadors who shared their time and helped make the morning feel thoughtful, joyful, and unmistakably WES! If you missed the magic of Discovery Day, there’s still more to discover... Join us for our Admissions Open House on Saturday, December 5, from 9:00–11:30 a.m., and experience Washington Episcopal School from Early Childhood through Middle School. Our PK3 and PK4 Dragons stepped outside the classroom and took their science studies to the farm today! 🌱 At Calleva Farm, PK3 students learned what farm animals eat and how they live while exploring the important role farms play in our everyday lives. Their hands-on farm experience even included horseback riding! PK4 visited Green Meadows Petting Farm to observe signs of autumn and explore the life cycles of chickens and apples, building their understanding of how living things grow and change. For our preschool students, these field trips offer opportunities to practice careful observation and connect classroom concepts with firsthand experiences. It’s one way Washington Episcopal School’s Early Childhood program helps our youngest learners make sense of the natural world. Join us for Discovery Day tomorrow, October 24, from 9 to 11 a.m. to see where discovery begins at WES! . . . Today four alumni who attend St. Andrew’s Episcopal School — Evie, Sophia, Bella, and Peter—sat in on Mr. Corcy’s Grade 6 French class. From varsity soccer to tennis to dance and track & field, these freshmen and sophomores) are immersing themselves in their high school. Earlier this month three St. John’s freshmen (James, Julian, and Kenzie) stopped by to visit with former teachers and advisors. Joseph is playing football at Gonzaga, and Ms. Brockway chatted with Meharriew after St. Albans’ homecoming football game. We are so proud of you all! by @gowesdragons
It was wonderful to welcome former faculty back to WES for yesterday’s fall gathering! Time together on campus offered a chance to catch up with colleagues and reconnect over shared memories. As we celebrate 40 years of WES, we’re especially grateful for the educators who helped shape our school and made a lasting difference in the lives of our students. And as our school continues to grow, it is especially inspiring to welcome back the ones who made it what it is today. #WashingtonEpiscopalSchool #WESCommunity #WES40 #OnceADragonAlwaysADragon by @gowesdragons
