As the investigation into the Cyclospora outbreak continues, more people are wondering where their produce comes from and how it is grown. Cox Farms, one of North America’s largest greenhouse operators, launched in 2024 and opened the Cox Farms Discovery Center in Macon, Georgia in 2025.The farm has about 700 acres of advanced greenhouses growing lettuce, tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers and strawberries."We control everything that comes in and out, and so we don't have the surface water contamination issues," Cox Farms President Steve Bradley said of its partners. "We don't have wildlife roaming around through the fields, and, of course, we don't have a lot of people coming in contact with the product.Produce packaged with the words “greenhouse grown” means it was grown using nutrient-rich water and not soil, a technique called hydroponic farming.Cyclospora, a microscopic parasite that is transmitted through human fecal matter, typically gets into surface water and can then come in contact with the plants."And particularly the lettuce because it's low to the ground," Bradley said. "It also can be contaminated by direct contact with the human fecal matter to the produce itself."Since May 1, the start of the typical Cyclosporiasis season, reports of at least 1,645 lab-confirmed cases of domestically acquired Cyclospora and more than 5,100 additional reports that require further analysis to confirm they meet the case definition.GPB's Ellen Eldridge reports at the link in bio. by @gpbmedia

A teenager has pleaded guilty to all 55 counts in a deadly shooting nearly two years ago at Apalachee High School in Georgia. Sixteen-year-old Colt Gray entered the plea Friday without having reached a deal with prosecutors. He had previously pleaded not guilty to charges in the Sept. 4, 2024, shooting that killed two students and two teachers, and left several others wounded, at the high school about 45 miles northeast of Atlanta.Barrow County Superior Court Judge Nicholas Primm is now expected to hear each side’s summary of the case, evidence and sentencing recommendation before deciding the sentence.Stay tuned to GPB News for updates. by @gpbmedia

The suspect accused of carrying out a deadly shooting at Apalachee High School in Barrow County is set to appear in court Friday morning.Colt Gray is set to enter a non-negotiated plea for charges including four counts of felony murder.That’s a change from his previous “not guilty” plea, which means he’ll avoid a jury trial in Augusta this fall.It also means his defense attorneys and prosecutors did not reach an agreement for sentencing.He faces a life sentence for the charges against him, but sentencing will determine a possibility for parole.Read more at the link in bio. by @gpbmedia

During a rally at Wheeler High School in in Marietta on Wednesday, President Donald Trump told the crowd how he met the family of Lieutenant Tyler Feehan, a U.S. service member from Georgia who was killed in Iran. Trump met Stephen and Shari Feehan, Tyler's parents, while attending the dignified transfer ceremony for four U.S. Service members recently killed in the conflict. Trump says he offered the family a ride back to Georgia in Air Force One from Dover Air Force Base. The president also touted the $1,000 that babies can receive when their parents open Trump Accounts in their names. Republican candidate for Georgia Governor Rick Jackson attended the rally and announced that he intends to push the state of Georgia to match the federal contribution with another thousand dollars.Attendees lined up outside the venue in the early hours of the morning for a chance to see him speak while others showed up to protest his appearance. A corroded sprinkler triggered the 2024 BioLab fire in Conyers, a disaster the US Chemical Safety Board (CSB) said likely would not have happened if the company had addressed years of documented corrosion and equipment failures.In its final report released Tuesday, the CSB found that a sprinkler system component failed inside BioLab’s Plant 12 warehouse, releasing water onto chemicals used to clean pools and spas stored inside. It set off a series of reactions that produced toxic smoke containing chlorine, hydrogen chloride, bromine and other substances.
