It’s early back in the states but I just had my breakfast here so it’s time to celebrate 🥳🍾

One year ago today @bianca_jernet and I made it official like a referees whistle. Can’t believe we’ve already hit a year baby. Time is flying faster than the jet that got us here to Greece. Santorini has been a wonderful location to reflect on the past, enjoy the present and look towards the future we are creating together. I love you and the good times are only getting better.

And don’t forget today is Bianca & Darryl Young Jr Day! Tell that boss you can’t punch that clock today it’s a holiday! 😜 taken in Megalochori Santorini Grecia by @gqgent

So I’ve been wanting to try and cook with Mergeuz, which is a spicy lamb sausage, but I didn’t know where to get it. So I took ground lamb and pork chorizo and made a Lamb & Chorizo Gravy Smothered Queso Grits. And it was AMAZING! That egg yolk really set it off #Brunch #BrunchBae #BlackMenCook #Homemade #SouthernCooking by @gqgent

I had the honor and privilege of meeting Dolores Huerta back in December of 2019 when she visited the Muhammad Ali Center. She was kind and gracious but also still deeply committed to workers rights and equity.

Hearing the news yesterday that she was raped and kept it secret for over 60 years so as not to disparage the man who became the face of the movement she cofounded was heartbreaking. Maybe even more so because it’s not surprising.

There is probably some sick and twisted way to characterize her secret as noble and fashion her silence as strength and resilience. However it is shameful that she, and according to the reports many other young women and girls had to endure that pain, humiliation and abuse. All for a cause that was supposed to bring them equality and justice. A cause they poured time, effort, sweat and tears into. A cause that shouldn’t have made them targets by those that were supposed to stand for and protect them.

Movements are messy. More often than what we’d like to acknowledge we allow monsters to get wrapped in valor because of their charisma, intellect and charm. It is a scary juxtaposition that a man like Cesar Chavez could so beautifully seek justice for the plight of marginalized workers but also commit such heinous and vile acts against his own people.

Words seem hollow but at least they can shine a light to the truths that we are more comfortable excusing away than addressing. by @gqgent
