dear gymnastics,

20 years of commitment to this sport has led me to this moment. the moment that i have to step away and move on towards my future goals. this sport has flooded me with endless memories and lessons that i will cherish forever. although this sport came with many struggles and challenges, i wouldn’t trade what it gave me for the world.

first, i want to thank my parents and family for supporting me all the way through. you taught me what it was like to reach for a goal and shoot for the stars. your endless support has helped me reach my dreams.

second, i want to thank TGC for guiding me towards a love for gymnastics. thank you kim for supporting me, even through college. and thank you leigh for giving me a chance when i was just a little bitty child. i wouldn’t have made it to where i am if it weren’t for all the coaches at TGC.

next, i want to thank JPAC for allowing a space for my gymnastics and myself to grow. jaycie, dave, kyle, autumn, and carrie, you guided me through every scary step of high level gymnastics. you turned my dreams of becoming a college gymnast into a reality. i can’t thank you all enough for the impact you had on my career. thank you for never giving up on me.

finally, i would like to thank ball state gymnastics, scott, cass, and joanna, for the opportunity of a lifetime. you allowed me to grow as a person and a mentor for young athletes. thank you for giving my dream a chance, and thank you for helping me grow outside of sport.

without gymnastics, i would never be where i am today. i am forever grateful that i had the opportunity to thrive in this sport and learn the lessons that came with.

with this being said,

Everyday is Earth day, but this year’s celebration of Earth is so much more important.

We live on such a unique planet that should never be taken for granted; however, it is so easy to. This is our planet, but it’s also nature’s planet. The planet can survive without us but we cannot survive without it. It is a privilege to live on this Earth and we must do better to look after it.

I grew up as the kid who loved the outdoors. I loved to hike, I loved to camp, I loved the beach. My hope for the future is that the next generation will be able to have the experience of growing up in nature just as I did. My hope is that my kids and grandkids will have the opportunity to experience the public lands that I have always loved. My hope is that those lands are still around for all to see.
