Now that I’m working on Draft 3 of YULEBRIDE, it’s time to return to my stack of research books! As a writer, I don’t actually spend a ton of time researching before I write a first draft (only what is absolutely necessary to tell the story and move forward) so I spend more time researching in later revision rounds. I think this helps sharpen my focus and adds a lot of texture and verisimilitude to my existing scenes!

While I don’t read every page of every research book, I keep this stack on my desk at all times for easy access. And I’ve learned a lot of cool things along the way! Did anything here surprise you? ❄️

I find myself in the absolutely amazing but somewhat awkward position of promoting two very different stories of mine in the same release month, which has made me think a lot about genre positioning and what you lovely followers can expect from me. Some days it feels like my feed is all over the place, and I am sure it’s confusing!!

As someone who writes under the broad category of “fantasy,” I like to say that my works contain a range of romance. Sometimes it’s a drop. Sometimes it’s the whole plot. But I have to laugh because these two stories of mine truly mark the edges of both extremes.

Luckily, all of my novels (the majority of what I work on) fall within the happy middle of this diagram. So if you’re confused, I hope that over time and with new releases, this sliding scale will balance itself!

Any other writer friends juggling genre variations without using a pen name? How do you handle the difference? Any advice? I’d love to hear from you!

Last night, I got to celebrate the publication of my first short story with so many people I love. 🖤 (And a bonus second publication later this month!) There was food and fun and laughter, and it was everything I could have asked for in a pub day. I’m so lucky and grateful to have such a supportive community because the long road of a writer is often very lonely. But today my heart is full of love and gratitude.

This is a huge milestone for me—the dream I have been chasing all my life—but it’s also the beginning of so much more to come.

Thanks to everyone who’s supported me through the release of Richmond Fantastic. And for those who are waiting on the big novel drops someday, I’m working so hard to get there! 🥹

I’m thrilled to announce that my Regency romance short story, “Meet Me Under the Oak Tree,” will be published in the inaugural issue of The Yearning Journal!

The story is about an aspiring young poet who’s dragged to the house party of an odious suitor only to fall in love with a gorgeous painting—and the intriguing man standing beside it. Inspired by the lush, romantic landscape works of John Constable (such as “Wooded Landscape,” pictured here), it’s the perfect reading for fall. 🍂
