may is mental health awareness month, with shaky hands typing this, I wanna say a few things. i work in mental healthcare, three of my good friends have lost their battles with mental health, and i almost lost my battle about 8 months ago. it’s never easy to start these conversations, but they’re vital. i have struggled with mental health for as long as i can remember, school was hard. often times before the sun would even rise on a school morning, I’d find myself on the bathroom floor in full panic sick to my stomach and hyperventilating. Anxiety and depression’s hands had a chokehold on my brain. It never made sense to me until i got older, years of therapy, 5 years of studying psychology, and working in the mental healthcare field. I have dedicated my entire life to being an advocate for the brains that feel like they’re on fire. Brain on fire is a phrase that best describes a lot of my days. It’s a battle, daily. But I choose to fight it because look at what a beautiful, blessed life i have despite it all. There’s people that need a voice, and i know what it feels like.PLEASE, if you are struggling, reach out to 988, and of course- my inboxes are ALWAYS open. I cannot stand to lose another loved one to an unimaginable mental battle. I love you. I hear you. I deeply, deeply care about you. No one ever deserves to ache alone.
