It’s been a few months since my dad passed, and this is my first Father’s Day without him. I can’t think of a better time to honor his life, the impact he had on mine, and the things I’ll always love about him.

My dad was my best friend. He was the most fun. My whole life, I admired his strength, his humor, his intelligence, and how he always showed up for me. He was also incredibly kind and intentional as a father: spending time making cards to send to me at camp, writing letters for graduation, letting me paint his nails pink, amongst many other ridiculously loving expressions.

Loving us was his way of living, and us loving him back the same way made life so much richer for him. He wasn’t perfect, but he was dad. He showed me the perfect representation of Jesus’ love. I miss him deeply and think about him daily, but today I celebrate him - the father he was and the legacy he left behind. I’d like to think some of those things can be a legacy through my life.

Last year, I forgot to post about Night of Christmas but this year was one to remember so I wanted to share some pictures with my favorite people!

When I was thinking of what to share with this post, God brought me back to a few years ago when singing was a stagnant dream of mine; and at that point, something I began to believe wasn’t for me. Because of the opposition in the natural, I felt like I had heard God wrong and that I was not enough. What I didn’t realize is that sometimes, when God is working behind the scenes, we can’t always see His plan but we have to still trust that God is working in our favor.

So, through the 11 years of no’s, I began to cultivate my inner life: the life with God at the center. For a long time, I believed the lie that the next season of my life would be more rewarding and somehow make me more complete. But I realized that my current season of life served a purpose and my life is complete because of who God is in my life.

Every season has value: some to prepare, some to minister, some to heal, some to prevail! I began to remind myself daily of Isaiah 58:11 (the Lord will always lead you. He will meet the needs of your soul in the dry times and give strength to your body. You will be like a garden that has enough water, like a well of water that never dries up). And I started to be reminded of the dreams and visions that God had given me for my life and that they would be fueled by the Holy Spirit.

Looking at my life now, I’m so grateful for the opportunities I have to minister through music. I wouldn’t be able to operate in the capacity I do without having that season of great intimacy with God. My favorite part of my life is having the Holy Spirit by my side in all things. I get to lead people in worship, I get to teach kids the thing I love most, I get to bring my family together through music, I get to sing at places like the Rady’s Shell, I get to write songs. THE CHRISTMAS COLLECTION IS OUT!!

Katie and I worked super hard on this project and wanted to do something together to celebrate our favorite holiday! We really wanted to give you guys the most authentic and organic versions of our favorite songs so we chose to do single takes and no melodine or autotune!! I had the honor of being asked to play piano for HERO again this year and it was so special. This year’s show came with higher stakes, higher commitment, and higher sacrifice. These incredibly talented musicians and the show as a whole over the last few years has pushed me to become a better musician. To make this show possible, each one of us put hours of rehearsing and time into crafting the best tones, patches, and interpretations of these songs. Most people will never see or understand the time it takes to play for this show. It comes with technical difficulties, emotional days, and more tweaks than you can count but every single one of those is so worth it. I am so grateful for every single one of these guys because they’ve encouraged me, helped me learn, and have been like a second family to me. There was never a time when Paul, Mark, Jamin, or Adrian didn’t say something positive to me about how proud they were or how great I was doing and you never know how much that encouragement helps when you’re living off no sleep. I still can’t believe it’s over so I will share a couple of my favorite memories of each of them in the comments. taken in Awaken Church by @graceesee

Now that the song is out, I wanted to give a special shout-out to my incredible producer and collaborator @joelpiper !!
Man, this song is so special to me. An extremely personal song and Joel created such an atmosphere within our production process that made me so so proud. We did so many creative things to make this song what it is now. I can’t say enough incredible things about Joel, but he is much more than a producer.

One of the main reasons I release music is because the people in my circle have encouraged me and given me the confidence to share the things I write with all of you guys. One of those people is @seifert_stephen he encouraged me to find a true songwriting style that fit me. I asked him to sing background vocals and he played electric guitar in this song and it was so special having him collaborate with me!! I am so overjoyed with the response this single has brought! Warms my heart! But I wanted to give a huge shoutout to my creative directors/photographers/encouragers/friends @unusualhope @akaoshin @grail.haus for the hard work that made the face of this project. From the thought process behind, praying through their ideas, and coming together and making it happen everything was so beautifully done. They took a little idea and ran with it. Now that the song is out, I wanted to give a special shout-out to my incredible producer and collaborator @joelpiper !! He’s been planting seeds in my life since high school encouraging me to grow, to sing, to love others, and to honor. He is so much more than just a producer, he is one of the people I look up to most. Without Joel, none of this would be possible: logistically and because of his encouragement to step out. When you hear the song, you can hear Joel’s special touch all over it. The level of excellence, talent, and attention to detail he brings is so evident with all the little pieces we added in this song. I came to Joel with a song I wrote and some ideas and he was able to make that into a reality. We have a bunch more that we’re working on that I can’t wait for you to hear! Wouldn’t want to do this with anyone else!
