One year ago. I love this photo because it’s our first one together.

This time last year, I felt like I was in a barren land. I looked around and cried out to God, “There are no peaches in my garden.”

And after a little while, I felt Him show me trees.

I was praying for fruit, but God showed me trees instead.

I was overjoyed because I knew trees meant fruit was coming. If trees were present, surely peaches were on the way.

But I wasn’t in a rush anymore. I was content. Happy just watching the trees in my garden grow. The trees were the new thing.

And then David came into my life.

He felt unexpected. I wasn’t waiting for him. I wasn’t looking for him.

But he was so kind, so generous, so humble. Something about him caught my attention.

And quietly, I whispered, “God, is David a peach?”

And just a few nights later… David picked me up from the airport with flowers.

And a peach.

It felt like a wink from heaven. I’m in awe of God’s faithfulness and the way He knows how to speak to our hearts.

David is my first fruit. My peach. I love him.

I’ve come to see so much of my life as a garden.

The garden I’ve created in my mind has become my hidden place with God.

There are lilies, wildflowers, rivers, fields… and whenever I visit, He’s always there, as though He’s been expecting me.

I find myself sitting with Him beneath willow trees, learning patience, peace, and timing. Other days, we’re making our way across the pond, processing the aches within my heart.

Sometimes we’re walking down from the mountain and He’s teaching me the beauty of the in-between: the space between the mountaintop and the valley.

He has taught me how to be brave in this land, how to hunt, how to move forward, and how to dress myself in armor when the season calls for battle.

Lately, He’s teaching me to pause. To slow down. To listen to the birds and watch as roses bloom.

I love this not-so-little world I’ve created with Him.

It’s wonderful.

And I loved my birthday cake this year because it reminded me of all its flowers.
