HIGH CHOLESTEROL? HERE’S WHAT IT REALLY MEANS

Many people panic when they hear they have high cholesterol. But cholesterol itself is not the enemy.

Your body actually needs cholesterol to build cells, make hormones, and produce vitamin D.

The problem starts when the balance between HDL and LDL cholesterol is unhealthy.

🟢 HDL (High-Density Lipoprotein) is often called the “good cholesterol.”
Think of it as a cleaner. HDL helps remove excess cholesterol from your blood vessels and carries it back to the liver, where it can be processed and removed from the body.

🔴 LDL (Low-Density Lipoprotein) is often called the “bad cholesterol.”
When LDL levels become too high, cholesterol can build up inside the walls of your arteries. Over time, these deposits form plaques that narrow blood vessels and reduce blood flow.

This can increase your risk of:
• Heart attack
• Stroke
• High blood pressure
• Peripheral artery disease

A healthy cholesterol profile is not just about having a low total cholesterol level.

It’s about:
✅ Lower LDL (“bad” cholesterol)
✅ Higher HDL (“good” cholesterol)
✅ Healthy triglyceride levels

The good news?

Simple lifestyle changes can make a big difference:
🥗 Eat more fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and healthy fats
🚶 Stay physically active
🚭 Avoid smoking
⚖️ Maintain a healthy weight
🩺 Have your cholesterol checked regularly

Remember, high cholesterol usually has no symptoms. Many people only discover they have it after a routine blood test.

Know your numbers. Protect your heart.

Have you ever checked your cholesterol levels? Let us know in the comments.

8 Early Signs of Insulin Resistance You Should Not Ignore

Insulin resistance occurs when your body’s cells stop responding properly to insulin, making it harder to control blood sugar levels.

Over time, it can increase your risk of prediabetes, type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and stroke.

Watch out for these early warning signs:

1️⃣ Increased belly fat

Carrying excess weight around the waist is one of the most common signs of insulin resistance.

2️⃣ Constant tiredness

Feeling tired even after getting enough sleep may be a sign that your body is struggling to use glucose effectively.

3️⃣ Increased hunger

You may feel hungry more often, even shortly after eating.

4️⃣ Craving sugary foods

Frequent cravings for sweets, sugary drinks, or refined carbohydrates can occur.

5️⃣ Dark patches of skin

Dark, velvety skin around the neck, underarms, or groin may be a sign of insulin resistance. This condition is called acanthosis nigricans.

6️⃣ Difficulty losing weight

Some people find it harder to lose weight despite eating well and exercising.

7️⃣ High blood pressure

Insulin resistance is often linked to elevated blood pressure.

8️⃣ High blood sugar levels

Blood tests may show prediabetes or elevated blood sugar before symptoms become obvious.

❤️ The Good News

Insulin resistance can often be improved through:
✔️ Regular physical activity
✔️ Maintaining a healthy weight
✔️ Eating a balanced diet rich in vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins
✔️ Reducing sugary drinks and highly processed foods
✔️ Getting enough sleep

💬 Have you ever heard of insulin resistance before today?

SUPPLEMENTS THAT MAY HARM YOUR KIDNEYS

1. High-Dose Vitamin C

Large doses of vitamin C can increase oxalate levels in the urine, which may lead to kidney stones, particularly in people who are prone to stone formation.

2. Calcium Supplements (Excessive Use)

Taking high doses of calcium supplements may increase the risk of kidney stones, especially when taken without medical supervision.

3. Vitamin D (Too Much)

Excessive vitamin D can cause calcium levels in the blood to become dangerously high, potentially leading to kidney damage.

4. Aristolochia-Containing Herbal Products

These herbal remedies have been linked to severe and irreversible kidney failure. They are among the strongest documented examples of supplement-related kidney toxicity.

5. Weight-Loss and Bodybuilding Supplements

Some products marketed for rapid weight loss or muscle gain have been associated with acute kidney injury due to undeclared ingredients, stimulants, or contaminants. #kidneyhealth #kidneydisease #HealthyLiving #HealthyLifestyle #health #healthawareness by @gracious_cherry

10 Foods That May Help Improve Insulin Resistance

Insulin resistance occurs when your body’s cells don’t respond properly to insulin, making it harder to control blood sugar levels.

The good news? Healthy food choices can help improve insulin sensitivity over time.

1️⃣ Leafy Green Vegetables

Spinach, kale, cabbage, and lettuce are rich in fibre and nutrients while being low in calories.

2️⃣ Fatty Fish

Salmon, sardines, mackerel, and trout contain omega-3 fatty acids that support heart and metabolic health.

3️⃣ Eggs

A good source of protein that can help keep you full and reduce blood sugar spikes.

4️⃣ Avocados

Rich in healthy fats and fibre, which may help improve insulin sensitivity.

5️⃣ Beans and Lentils

High in fibre and protein, helping to slow the rise in blood sugar after meals.

6️⃣ Nuts

Almonds, walnuts, peanuts, and cashews can be a healthy snack when eaten in moderation.

7️⃣ Oats

A great source of soluble fibre that may help improve blood sugar control.

8️⃣ Berries

Strawberries, blueberries, and raspberries are lower in sugar than many other fruits and packed with antioxidants.

9️⃣ Greek Yoghurt or Plain Yoghurt

Provides protein and beneficial bacteria that support overall metabolic health.

🔟 Whole Grains

Foods such as brown rice, whole wheat, and quinoa are generally better choices than refined grains.

❤️ Remember

No single food can “cure” or “reverse” insulin resistance on its own.

The biggest improvements usually come from:
✔️ Regular physical activity
✔️ Weight management
✔️ Eating a balanced diet
✔️ Getting enough sleep
✔️ Reducing sugary drinks and highly processed foods

💬 Which of these foods do you already eat regularly?

7 Things You Should Do If You Have a Stomach Ulcer

A stomach ulcer can be painful, but the good news is that most ulcers can heal with the right treatment and lifestyle changes.

If you have an ulcer, here are 7 important things you should do:

1️⃣ Take your medication as prescribed

Don’t stop your medication just because you start feeling better.

2️⃣ Complete your treatment

If your ulcer is caused by H. pylori bacteria, make sure you complete the full course of treatment.

3️⃣ Avoid smoking

Smoking can slow ulcer healing and increase the risk of complications.

4️⃣ Limit or avoid alcohol

Alcohol can irritate the stomach lining and worsen symptoms.

5️⃣ Be careful with painkillers

Frequent use of medications such as ibuprofen, diclofenac, and naproxen can worsen ulcers.

6️⃣ Eat regular meals

Skipping meals may worsen ulcer symptoms in some people.

7️⃣ Know your trigger foods

Pay attention to foods that make your symptoms worse and try to avoid them.
