@graduatesrise and @mikewindyart sat down for a nice long chat in Inglewood this week. Cynthia George PHD, MSSW is a professor in the Social Work program at Tennessee State University, Founding Chair of Disabled to the Front Advisory Group and band leader of Dr. Cyn and the Graduates Rise. This conversation covered a lot of ground including an upcoming wheelchair repair party planned for September at Drifters in Five Points. Dr. Cyn’s idea to connect bicycle, roller derby, skaters, and the disabled communities is brilliant but you have to hear it for yourself! Voting is Disability Pride y’all! Be sure to check your registration status and research the candidates running for office in your area. It is more important than ever that we cast our votes for candidates that are going to protect and honor disability rights! Who remembers Rollins Market? That makes you real Madison:) My great uncles Alf and Tom started the store and I grew up working there. I took these shots there just before the new owners demolished some of these structures. Miss you Alf and Tom and Great Aunt Mary (she’s the one that put in the hot food counter and produce sections but it’s still a bit of a food desert). Loved my time there nonetheless!
