Some snaps from my hat-making session last night. I wanted to show how one of our caps comes together…in this case, the This IS Where You Sprint Cap.

Each hat features six separate custom components: a microfiber patch with raised silicone on the front, plus our signature GA Rivet Mark on the side, which is attached by hand with a matching rivet.

Inside, you’ll find a woven label on the left and an oversized “Wear it out!” heat transfer graphic on the right.

Pretty cool to have the ability to prototype new ideas and produce full production runs right here in the Garagio.

It’s definitely a labor of love.

America’s original sport deserved a hat worthy of our nation’s 250th anniversary, so we partnered with @usalacrosse to bring the USAL Certified Cap to life.

Built from the ground up, every detail was considered…from the sublimated Stars & Stripes underbrim and inside crown to the red, white, and blue rope, tee holder, and raised silicon decoration. Made of a proprietary performance nylon blend designed to keep you cool in the summer heat.

As a coach, former player, and fan of the game, this is the hat I’ve always wanted to create. Seeing it come together with USA Lacrosse is something I’m incredibly proud of.

Wear it out! 🇺🇸🥍

“Wear it out!” has become our mantra around here. It’s a reminder to use the gear, take the trip, run the trail, fish the river, and make some memories along the way.

We’re starting to weave that message directly into our products.

What do you think?

Father’s Day came a day early this year.

Yesterday I earned my first triathlon podium after three seasons of trying. 🏆

Naturally, I’m giving full credit to the “This Is Where You Sprint” cap. It delivered the turbo boost I needed over the final stretch.😎

Four years ago, I suffered a pretty significant ligament injury playing basketball. At the time, I wasn’t sure I’d ever get back to feeling 100%. Physical therapy led me to biking and swimming. Running followed shortly after.

And somehow, that journey led to a podium finish at Hagg Lake.

Swipe through to get a glimpse of race day: 70 degrees, puffy clouds, comfortable water temperatures, and a beautiful ride around the Hagg Lake.💦

Big shoutout to @why_racing_events for another fantastic event. We’re already looking forward to the Columbia Triathlon Festival in August.

If you’re looking for something fun, challenging, and active this summer, I can’t recommend their events enough. There are races and distances for just about everyone. 💨

Happy Father’s Day from our family to yours. 💚

Made a cap for triathlon season.

We’re calling it the “This Is Where You Sprint” Cap. The story behind the name is in the video.

It’s already been field-tested at the PDX Triathlon Festival, and tomorrow it’ll make the trip to Hagg Lake for another round. Jules and I will be out there chasing PRs, and if things go sideways, we’ve always got the “This Is Where You Sprint” button reserved for the final stretch.

Wish us…and the cap…luck. 🏊🚴🏃

4th year as a youth lacrosse coach is a wrap. Shout-out to my @westlinnyouthgirlslax U14 squad. We lost a nail biter with no time remaining in the semi final. Still…W’s up, because when you score 4 goals in 2 minutes thats what you do. Wins / Losses aside it’s really about teaching perseverance. Reframing a victory so that we don’t rest on our laurels, using a loss to gain insights on improvement. These are the lessons I’ve taken from sport and applied to Grafletics, and from Grafletics back into sport. Full circle.

We also made a swag for the team. Too much to post, but here are some snaps of the hats. The last one…Pick and Pass Comfort Club is an inside joke, and our tournament hat. 4 weeks ago I told the team that if they didn’t start picking and passing I’d change our mascot from the Lions to the PPCC for next year. They erupted, so we made the hats to commemorate the season.

Also, big shout out to my daughter Liv. Perhaps some of you remember her working the booth at our street fairs, night markets, store, etc. She’s fully committed to the Medicine Game, I couldn’t be more proud. 🥍

Coaching youth sports is where it’s at. Looking forward to seeing what are players do at the next level. Thinking about how we make it better for next season. Let the summer begin🙌💚

Spring means coaching my daughter’s U14 team @westlinnyouthgirlslax … and designing the merch.

Our program turned 30 this year, so I built a WL mark in a typeface called Cooper Black. It’s playful, with a throwback feel and I gave it some life with a character running downfield holding a lacrosse stick.

It started as one idea. Now it’s on everything we wear…t-shirts, hats, shooter shirts, you name it.

We mix in surprise drops on game day for our coaches and board members. Same idea as a pro team unveiling an alternate uniform, just on a smaller scale.

We’re in the fortunate position to shoulder the cost of the gear we make for the program. It’s one of the blessings of my life.

Tomorrow I get to walk up to our coaches and say “here’s your new hat” and watch their reactions.

At the end of the day, it’s not really about the merch, it’s about the people and how it connects us. Sports and graphic design have been lifelines for me, this is my love language.

Looking forward to the games tomorrow. Go lions!

As most of you know, we cut our teeth as a brand in Portland. I started this thing in my garage over 13 years ago.

What some of you might not know…
I grew up on the East Coast with a single mom who worked full time. Latchkey kid. Apartment life.

So it’s not lost on me that we just flew to California with my family for a shoot tied to our small business and Sacramento Republic FC.

That wasn’t my experience growing up.
And it’s not something I take lightly.

When I leave this earth, I want my kids to remember what we built…what it felt like…and what it actually takes to bring a vision into the real world.

They’ve seen it locally in our stadiums, retail partners, pop-ups, street fairs, etc. But it’s different when you get on a plane and go make it happen somewhere else.

At the end of the day, we’re a family of athletes and artists.
Grafletics has become the platform we get to share that through.

Our roots are in Oregon. Our branches are expanding into new markets. That’s always been the goal, hence the name Grafletics and this is the latest example.

Remember….evolution is a good thing. It’s also very difficult because it forces you to get uncomfortable.

I’ve gained first hand wisdom here that you can’t buy or get working for others…the wins…the losses…the risk. I’ve packaged them up, filtered them out and striving to create winning appeal and merchandising programs for our prospective and existing clients.

This one hit different for another reason too.
My wife’s from Davis, with deep roots in Gold Country.
When we’re down there, we stay with her lifelong friends—the Robinsons.

So we brought them into it and created a new experience for all of us.

Two families. Eight kids. Nine piece collection. A photoshoot. Minimal wrinkles (on the garments) not me;) No small feat.

I’ve always been drawn to secondary cities.

Places we travel to…like Albuquerque, Santa Fe, Sacramento, Tacoma, Baltimore, etc. Cities with real character and strong local pride, but often limited options when it comes to well-designed, everyday merch.

Building our brand in Portland shaped how we think about serving other markets. When we started in 2013, locally themed merch was hard to come by. That gap is what led me to start Graf.

Since day one, the goal has been to expand beyond our home market and serve places like Sacramento in a more thoughtful way.

Our collaboration with @sacrepublicfc was a step in that direction.

This wasn’t about over-designing anything. It was an exercise in understanding what already existed, identifying assortment gaps and building into them using core branded assets.

A tri-blend tee that makes sense in the Sacramento heat. A women’s box tee that adds something new to the mix. Heathered fabrics on the youth side to keep things comfortable on match day.

We also introduced a quarter zip that’s already found its way into the club’s day-to-day. One of their executives wore it while announcing the new stadium, which says a lot about how the product is being adopted internally.

For us, that’s the win.

One of my favorite parts of the job… getting out of the studio and into the environments we’re designing for.

We spent time in Sacramento working on this collection with @sacrepublicfc // Walking the neighborhoods, shopping, paying attention to what people wear, how they show up on game day, etc.

When it came time to shoot it, we kept things close to home. My wife grew up in the area, so bringing her and one of her lifelong friends into the process was meaningful.

It also gave our kids a chance to be part of it, creating a new experience for them in a place that already holds a lot of history for our family.

We partnered with a local photographer @staceydoylephotography and kept the whole thing pretty natural. Creating imagery that feels true to the place the product lives in.

We also have fun while doing it!

One of my favorite parts of the job… immersing myself in the environments I design for.

You get to see what people wear, how they engage, the food they eat, and ultimately how to best serve the client.

This past week we traveled as a family to @sacrepublicfc.

We’ve been working on a 9-piece collection that I’ll be sharing over the coming days. Also, Sactown food recommendations and places to visit in this Fridays edition of the GAzette.
