POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
Am sitting in a motorcycle dealership in Tasikmalaya, Java awaiting a new chain on my Kawasaki KLX. In front of me a phalanx of electric scooters - all sizes and shapes (a lot with pinkish/"feminine" colourways aimed at you know who 😀) and 3-4 chaps preparing them and test riding them ..... And if this is the future (it seems that way) I'm all for it. Here in Indonesia a small but but very intrusive number of young men ride their petrol moto's with barely any silencer/muffler and the assault on the ears is relentless and exhausting..... It will be a great many years but eventually the populace of the future may hear just the very muted sounds (tyre noise, some impossibly low decibel of e-power) and not the conversation interrupting cacophony of open exhausts. Of course the current situation could be improved if there was any emsemblance of decibel enforcement here, but alas that is beyond the ability if Polisi here 🙄 by @grahamallan66

With living on outskirts of Jakarta it is quite the mission to "head into the city" But some of the splendours have been calling so yesterday it was motorcycle, train, tuktuk, and jalan kaki (walking) - in 30+ deg, little shade, thankfully a moderate breeze ...
The story of Indonesia grasping it's opportunity in the wake of WWII and resisting the Dutch to proclaim (17.8.45), and then fight for, its independence is wonderful. In 1961 they began to construct a "monument national" = Monas. Finally open to the people in 1975 it is set in a large expanse of parkland in the centre of Jakarta. by @grahamallan66

An immersive, interesting, and at times challenging ferry trip Denpasar to Makassar - via Bima (Sumbawa) and Labuan Bajo (Flores). First leg boat was only half full and we steamed on calm seas with light breezes. People I spoke with were returning home to Labuan Bajo after working the high season in Bali. A dawn arrival at Bima rung the changes with comical scenes of porters assigned the job of lining up the gangway trestle - the second they got it done they stormed the boat looking for luggage to command, and a stream of people followed to sell food, coffee, and jewelry of questionable quality. A late afternoon arrival to the impressively developed Labuan Bajo wharf/marina saw similar scenes played out. Then overnight to Makassar with bodies strewn everywhere and food packaging waste overflowing the many, many bins .... Even with bins everywhere locals of all ages still chucked some rubbish (cig butts, filaments of wrapping) overboard 😧😔🙄 Very sad/mad 😡 Makassar is a spacious and historic city - I look forward to exploring it a bit whilst they process my visa extension this coming week 🙏 by @grahamallan66

An interesting week ... to Tamakimakaurau to attend Kawe aroha ki Waipapa Alistair Allan - lovely gathering to remember those who have died in last 12 months. Dad had been denied the opportunity to attend university in late 1940's due to the conservativism of his mother - but his name was finally read there in acknowledgement of a fine life and legacy 🙏

Enjoyed time with siblings, in-laws, nephews, cousins and an aunt - lovely catch ups to keep abreast of where peeps are at in life.

Purchased a small motorcycle and loaded it up for road trip south... Rode into blustery winds from Auckland to Lower Hutt, and got rained on very lightly a few times, becoming no more than damp ... Accumulating knowledge about the (dis)comfort of the long distance motorcyclist along the way ... Ear plugs, neck gaiter, double layered gloves, adjusting gear lever to sit comfortably near ones toes ....

Now sitting tight in Lower Hutt waiting for Marlborough/ Canterbury to thaw/dry off a tad. It's cold out there 🥶 by @grahamallan66

Feeling very blessed. I've had the crazy good/miss-fortune to move into a new home right.next.door to a family who are extending their home. The builders are ripping out oodles of lovely rimu timber framing .... (1950's vintage house) As a magpie is to shiny things I am to native timbers .... So I now have a considerable stack of rimu to re-purpose (after careful de-nailing). Sometimes the world just smiles on you 🙏 by @grahamallan66

Step #2 in the reno project. (step #1 was the removal of carpet - shout-out to the wonderful Rob Halliday) Next step filling nail holes and larger gaps, then another sand and finish coat. Final two steps = new dble glazed window and curtains 👌 Many more reno jobs to come to turn a dog's breakfast of a house into a comfy home ☺️ by @grahamallan66

A couple of public notices spotted whilst cycling through Sydenham this morning. One I subscribe to having gone 12 months without visiting a barber (or hairdresser), the other is sage advice for anyone who wants their life to be perfect before they can be happy or content .... by @grahamallan66
