POSTS STORIES REELS

A venue that dresses up for weddings and loosens its tie for business, The Grand Hall can't be defined by one kind of event. Because from day one we set out to never fit in a box, designing a space made for this AND that:

+ Film screenings
+ Private parties
+ Comedy nights
+ Workshops
+ Book signings
+ Fitness classes
+ Local bands
+ Wellness retreats

And so much more.

Is there an event you've been dreaming up? Give us a shout. 👋

We are HERE for the local, community-focused revival happening across the country right now, and we’d love to let you in on the maaaany Canadian brands you support when booking your events and stays with us. 🤍

While still in the early stages of business, we’ve been extra conscious of living our values before proclaiming them.

In hindsight, it probably would have been easier to list the things we didn’t (and by didn’t, we mean couldn’t) get in Canada… There are others still that aren’t listed above, like @CastleCarpentry, @FairfieldIslandPlumbing, @MFastCarpentry, and the many local authors who fill our bookshelves.

We’re thankful that @algra_bros, @bloomandbuilddesign, and all the partners who have shared these values with us from the beginning, have worked with many other local professionals to build spaces we can be proud of, through and through. ❤️

On paper, it didn’t always make sense to source local, but we did it anyway….

Because.

Yesterday we welcomed 14 Chilliwack school trustee candidates to The Grand Hall for a public forum ahead of the local election on October 17th.

Candidates participated in rotating groups and responded to questions about the role of a school trustee, student learning and achievement, budgets and priorities, safe and inclusive schools, parent and community involvement, and effective school board governance.

The forum was designed in a non-partisan fashion to give candidates an opportunity to share their perspectives directly with voters and help our community learn more about the people asking to serve on the Chilliwack Board of Education.

The candidates in attendance were:

Barbara Bednarski
Brooke Bouwsema-Cardinal
Cary Moore
Christine Kruger
Darren Ollinger
David Swankey
Hayden Rampton
Katie Bartel
Leah Kelley
Margaret Reid
Michael Carter
Paul Henderson
Sadie Hesketh
Willow Reichelt

A recording of the discussions is now available for viewing on YouTube, link in bio.

A quick note about the recording: we experienced some microphone and audio challenges at the beginning of the event. Unfortunately, some candidates’ responses were too quiet to be fully picked up by the camera microphone. The audio improves as the forum continues, but we apologize for any portions that may be difficult to hear.

Thank you to those who participated, to our hosts Clint Hames and Corinne McCabe, to Teri Westerby who helped organize and capture the event, and to everyone who joined us in person.

Most importantly, thank you to everyone taking the time to learn about the candidates and participate in our local democracy.
