Diolch yn fawr @blackmaggit and @franknasties for being our Summer residency artists. Really interesting sharing with studio residents about themes and thoughts around the work made and processes undertaken over the last 9 weeks, including trying out graffiti behind a bush and on ceramic-ware and subverting fairground rides. Funded by @celfcymruarts and partnered by @gpyouthforum and @g39cardiff by @grangetown_studios
As part of this Summer’s Studio Residency Adam @blackmaggit and Frankie @franknasties have had the chance to do practical workshops with some of the studio artists, which included clay work and book binding. Adam chose to do a 1-1 four-part ceramics workshop with Ryan @bunney.ceramics . Adam’s background is in sculpture and his aim was to develop more control and craftsmanship throughout the workshops. As part of the workshop Adam explored different clay techniques and finishes, learned to throw on a wheel, did turning and used inlay, carving, and mark-making on the outside of a pot before throwing. Both Adam and Frankie also attended a soft binding workshop with @_ahillustration of @ham.cardiff. The book binding workshop had a sewing element that worked well with Frankie’s practice. Frankie is looking forward to making some small pocket sketchbooks soon alongside finishing a very large hand-sewn rosette. Big thanks thanks to @celfcymruarts for funding the residencies, @gpyouthforum for partnering and Caitlin @g39cardiff for supporting by @grangetown_studios
Diolch yn fawr to everyone who came to visit today, stopped for a chat, played today, contributed to the raffle, ate a samosa, communally sewed, made something with clay or chipped away at some alabaster. Food and raffle sales raised £147.65 + £35.61 in direct online donations through instagram for @cardifffoodbank (a total of £183.26) by @grangetown_studios
Croeso Summer Residency artists Frankie @franknasties and Adam @blackmaggit to the studio. Both artists are very materials and process led. Frankie is using the residency time to experiment with ideas for projects around novelties, erotica, and parody, collaborating with local joke shops and fairground spaces. Adam is using the time to develop his painting practice, creating external manifestations of internal experiences with a dreamlike detail. Diolch @celfcymruarts for funding this residency programme by @grangetown_studios
Funds from food sales and the raffle at this Sunday’s open day will be donated to Cardiff Food-bank to suppprt them in continuing to provide food for those who need it by @grangetown_studios
