this year has brought the devastating loss of two special girls in my life — my beautiful Dora Jean, and the deliciously spicy Rory 🕊️ those who knew Dora knew her as my monkey, my bunny, my CHOCOLATE bunny, and as she came to be known most affectionately, my Jeanie. she shaped my 20s immeasurably, teaching me more than I can say about devotion, simple pleasure, and all the fractions in which one can share a pillow (Mama learned her place eventually). despite her pure spirit and gentle heart, Jeanie’s fight was very sudden and very cruel, but she took her final rest on her Mama’s chest, grounding me each time I inhaled and exhaled — the same act of service she had performed so many times before 🌸 and there would have been no loving Dora Jean without first loving Rory, who opened my heart to all the merits of a kitty and cultivated a mass of Rorynators which rivalled the factions of several pop divas. despite her behavioural issues, Rory found ways to be tender and curious, and she left a very wonky paw print on my heart 🐾 there are so many stories I could tell about these girls, and for that I am blessed. trying to move forward with appreciation — for warm windows, lumpy office chairs, a few licks of yogurt or sour cream, but most of all, for the love that we shared and the memories we made. telling myself that Rory needed a friend and Jeanie answered her call ❤️‍🩹 attached: my last moments with Jeanie, my first moments with Jeanie, and some kitten moments with Rory (when she would let me have a moment) 🐈‍⬛ by @grapeflavouring
