Last week we had the pleasure of visiting @stylofilmtv alongside @british_film_designers_guild members and our own.

A huge thank you to all those who came and to Stylo for opening their doors to us all!

We had the pleasure of walking through their space on a walking tour, exploring their equipment and materials. An absolute blast to see fellow creatives in this industry. We hope you all had as much fun as we did.

Common feelings of getting into this industry

1. No one is; you'll learn as you go.
2. Everyone has different experience and knowledge.
3. You have to start somewhere; you can learn so much online - have a question? ask us!
4. Most people haven't when they start; older doesn't always mean wiser.
5. Feel you need to take on a course? there's so many out there; we recommend looking into @annieatkins' workshop or Domestica course! or @talkingpointfilm
6. Have fun learning new techniques and skills, build a portfolio of what you enjoy making, network casually, ask what is going on recently.
7. Not everyone does; there's not one course to study, the best thing is knowledge and experience.
8. A strong portfolio is one that shows what you can do, don't judge by looking at others work, especially if you're new.
9. Mistakes happen, if you're new it can always be fixed.
10. Learn it or you'll learn it eventually.
11. Yes! any question is worth asking
12. You'll figure it out!
13. Not at all!

Been thinking about the upcoming Stylo open event but not certain? Don't miss it and RSVP now!

We're super excited to be able to share this event in partnership with @stylofilmtv and @british_film_designers_guild .

Not only will you be spending a late afternoon and evening discovering Stylo's latest studio setup and exploring new printing techniques, but you'll also be catching up with fellow industry professionals in a casual setting and discussing all things print and production.

Have any questions about printing and the process of working with Stylo or how you might take on a particular task? This open event is for you!

Jamie and Simon at Stylo will do tours of their material lab and explain the varied printing techniques useful for both period and contemporary jobs - raised plaque printing, printing floors and walls directly onto materials such as MDF, and much more.

Stylo tours will begin at 4pm, and Jamie and Simon have promised to keep the event open until 8pm, so people working at studios further afield from Watford can still join.

All Graphics Union members are welcome to come explore Stylo's facilities, catch up with old friends, and meet some new ones.

Please join us and the lovely people at Stylo for a late afternoon and evening of discovering their latest studio setup, exploring new printing techniques, and simply catching up with fellow industry professionals on Thursday 17th September.

Jamie and Simon at Stylo will do tours of their material lab and explain the varied printing techniques useful for both period and contemporary jobs - raised plaque printing, printing floors and walls directly onto materials such as MDF, and much more.

This event is a collaboration with BFDG members, so expect a lively mix of graphics people alongside folks from set dec and the art department.

Stylo tours will begin at 4pm, and Jamie and Simon have promised to keep the event open until 8pm, so people working at studios further afield from Watford can still join.

All Graphics Union members are welcome to come explore Stylo's facilities, catch up with old friends, and meet some new ones.
