Edinburgh book haul 📚 Which one shall I read first?

I specifically packed half a suitcase so that I could bring back some books ☺️ I can't believe books are this cheap in the UK when they are like €18 in Dutch bookstores 🥹 I do want to support bookstores but it hurts seeing the same book priced €9 online...

Do you buy your books in a physical store or online?

Time for some book ratings and reviews ✨ I haven't read that much this year but I also haven't posted in a while so here we go!

Q: do you often read books in your own language?

Also can you spot @melspencils artwork that she gifted me? ❤️

V.E Schwab never disappoints!

This is such a wonderfully written book. It follows Addie LaRue who has made a deal with the devil in order to escape an arranged marriage. The result? As soon as she is out of sight, everybody immediately forgets her. I find it a very interesting and unique concept. It has its advantages but overall it's a very lonely existence. I probably wouldn't last a year.

I did not give this book 5 stars because it was extremely slow at the beginning. I'm talking about +/- 200 slow pages. Some of them definitely could be scrapped in my opinion.

But as soon as Addie meets Henry, the one person that does remember her, the pacing picked up. I'm not easily satisfied with romances but I really liked these two together.

The ending had me shocked, and at first angry. Because what do you mean, you wonder which love is real (as can you tell I only loved one combination)? But the very last page made up for it, cause damn that was a power move!

I rarely read Dutch books because I have always preferred to read in English, and for some reason Dutch books are always so sexual in an inappropriate way (I am still traumatised from the books I had to read for Dutch class).

Nevertheless, I wanted to give Dutch books another chance. I thought this book would be different. Don't get me wrong, it is different, it is not nearly as weirdly sexual and misogynistic as most Dutch books are, but it is still there to an extent. The first sexual thought appears on page 23 (and ever since I found the character Grim a bit of a creep) and why did nipples have to be mentioned so often?

The plot and the mystery however kept me from quitting and actually kept me at the ende of my seat during the entire book. This book is creepy. I have never read something that gave me the creeps like this book has. Just the idea of the witch appearing at the edge of your by @graphiteandpages

I happened to read these two books right after each other without being aware of the controversy.

I had even planned out to photograph these two books together with a mirror because of the many similarities, but then I read about possible plagiarism and AI accusations.

I hope all the accusations are false because I liked to read both books and am planning on reading their sequels. I had been looking for the same feeling The Hunger Games gave me and these two definitely did!

Do you have a book that gave you a certain feeling that you're still looking for in other books?

Can we also talk about Taylor Swift x Hadestown? Cause this intro had got its grip on me.

"If I wanted to kill you, I'd have done it already." Anne Bonny - Black Sails 🏴‍☠️

Couldn't get the face quite right but I love the way her arm turned out (weird to say I know 😂). Now I want to rewatch Black Sails. Might as well do it since I have to entertain myself during this summer break ✌🏼

Looking for readers who love a little bit of this...

Do you like any of these books? These are my all time favourites! As you can see my favourite authors are V.E Schwab and Maggie Stiefvader. I just love most of their books and now I'm looking for accounts that like the same type of books! 💕

An early #wipwednesday 😜

The face was so difficult to do, why did I again have to choose a tiny reference 🫣 I never learn from my mistakes. I need Toned Tan paper in a bigger size.

Anyhow, the face doesn't look like the reference but she looks human so I'm content 🫡

Used:
Strathmore tones tan
Charcoal

How many unread books do you own?

These are mine! I consider myself to be a very responsible book buyer. I tend to only buy books when I'm almost finished with the last one, and yet I still own a couple of books that I haven't read 🙈 Don't know how that happened hahaha! What about you?

First read of 2026 🎉

Yeah it took me a while (but in my defense, this book has quite a lot of pages and the pages are also rather big 🙈) but it's definitely not the fault of the story!

I loved to dive back into Kell and Lila's world. The Shades of Magic series is one of my favourites, and I'm sure this one will be too! There are a couple of new characters that I like (Tes and Queen Nadiya), one that I cared about a little less (Kosika), but who knows what might happen in the sequel!

To me this is a 4/5 ⭐ book!

Have you read this book? If so what did you think? by @graphiteandpages

My favorite reads of 2025 💕 What are yours?

Books I've read in 2025. ✨

Most Bookstagrammers read this probably within 2 months, but not me haha, I'm a slow reader. Slow because I only like to read right before bed. So I read about 20 pages daily 🙈

I also draw very little (read 2-3 big pieces per year) so I figured these two hobbies could perfectly be combined into one account and that's why graphiteandpages was created about a week ago ☺️

It has been 2 years since I last posted a WIP, oops my bed 🙈 Figured it would be time for another one! My goal is to finish this piece before the end of the year.
