Introducing grapl mentoring.

For business owners who have built something successful, but now find they are the go-to person for everything.

The decisions.
The problem-solving.
The opportunities.
The responsibility.

What once felt like momentum starts to feel like constant demand.

grapl mentoring is for that next stage.

When working harder isn’t the answer — leading differently is.

It’s a confidential space to step out of the day-to-day, challenge thinking, work through decisions, and focus on what actually moves the business forward.

Support for business owners making the shift from being the “go-to” operator… to becoming the leader their business now needs.

Short-term planning keeps the lights on. Long-term planning builds market leaders.

You don’t need a crystal ball for 2027, just sharper questions about where your customer is heading next.

It’s never too late to start mapping the route. 🎯

Are you leading your business, or are you just pleasing everyone into operational gridlock?

A pattern I see constantly among senior leaders, especially millennial women stepping into C-suite and director roles, is falling into the “pleaser” trap.

As @fearnecotton writes in her latest book, the relentless urge to please everyone and control every outcome completely destroys our mental bandwidth and relationships.

And in senior leadership, the commercial cost is massive:

❌ You become the default bottleneck for every decision.

❌ Strategic vision gets buried under low-leverage firefighting.

❌ Commercial and organizational growth grinds to a halt.

Saying “yes” to everything isn’t helpful leadership, it’s short-term validation that suffocates your team’s autonomy and burns you out.

Want 5 practical ways to break the habit, step out of daily execution, and start driving real strategic growth? Swipe left…

Every business owner knows the value of having the right people in their corner.

As the 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗶𝗿 𝗼𝗳 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗗𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿’𝘀 𝗧𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲, my role isn’t to tell you how to run your business, but to create the space, challenge, and peer-level perspective that helps you 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗱𝗲𝗰𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 for it.

For those I haven’t met yet, here is a bit about my background and what I bring to the table as The Chair:

• 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗗𝗲𝗽𝘁𝗵:
15+ years delivering strategic growth across financial services, e-commerce, consulting, and gambling.

• 𝗖𝗼𝗿𝗽𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗦𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗲:
I spent the last 9 years leading digital and commercial propositions at NatWest Group—working directly alongside SME and commercial businesses to translate their everyday challenges and pain points into effective solutions. I started my career in B2B marketing for brands including HP, Sky and Shell.

• 𝗘𝘅𝗲𝗰𝘂𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗠𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴:
A Help to Grow mentor, currently completing an ILM Level 7 in Executive Mentoring, with a clear focus on developing confident, capable leaders while ensuring our peer sessions deliver structured, high-impact value.

• 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗹-𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱 𝗕𝗮𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲:
As a military partner and mother to two young boys, adaptability, pragmatic problem-solving, resilience and decisive leadership are woven into everything I do.

𝗣𝗲𝗲𝗿 𝗮𝗱𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗮𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗿𝗼𝗼𝗺 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝘀 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴.

If you are leading a business and looking for a trusted soundboard to unpack complex growth challenges, pull up a seat.

On Friday night I attended the launch party of my mentee’s business: Flory’s Flowers and Art, and wow—what an achievement! 🌸🎨

When I met Linda back in January at my Business Strategy Workshop, the business was just 2 ideas not yet on paper. She then joined my 3-month accelerator program, and together we turned that pipe dream into a fully-fledged brand—complete with local supplier partnerships and active sales both in person and online.

The real transformation, though? The incredible confidence Linda now holds as a business owner. She’s built a truly premium brand, and her self-belief compared to day one absolutely blows me away. ✨

Congrats Linda on officially launching! 🥂

If you’re looking for gift boxes filled with carefully curated, Cornish garden & art-inspired gifts? Go give Linda a follow @florysflowersandart

Most SME founders don’t suffer from a lack of hustle—they suffer from operational overload.

In the early days, being an aggressive “doer” is mandatory. You wear every hat, close every deal, and fix every fire. But as the business approaches its first major ceiling, that exact hero mindset turns into your biggest handicap.

You cannot out-hustle a broken organizational structure.

When revenue hits a wall, it’s rarely a product or sales problem. It’s a leadership bandwidth limit. Growth stops the moment the founder becomes the single bottleneck for every operational approval.

Transitioning from “Chief Operator” putting out daily fires to a “True CEO” driving strategy requires letting go of tactical control before your stamina gives out.

“The C-suite just doesn’t get it.” 🛑

I hear this all the time. I was recently working with a Head of Product who was visibly frustrated.

They had airtight user data, clear evidence of customer friction, and a solid fix ready to go. Yet, every time they stepped into the boardroom, they got hit with the same outcome: no budget, no priority, project stalled.

When we unpacked why, the issue wasn’t their product expertise—it was a total lack of commercial storytelling.

They were pitching user frustration to an executive team that only measures financial risk. They were presenting an operational problem without showing the cost of sitting still.

Once we reframed the narrative from “here’s what users are complaining about” to “here is the revenue at risk if we do nothing,” the room shifted instantly. The budget was unlocked.

Having great data is only half the job. Translating it into C-suite language is the other half.

Swipe through for the 4-part framework we used to turn boardroom “no’s” into green lights. 👆

#Leadership #HeadOfProduct #CommercialStrategy #businessmentoring Do senior leaders keep saying NO to your best ideas?
(Subtext at bottom):
Hint: It’s not your data ➡️

You pulled the user insights.
You tracked the complaints.
You proved the issue exists.
...Yet you walk out of the boardroom with zero budget and a stalled project.
Why?
Because having a great idea is only half the job.
Selling it upward in executive language is the other half. ➡️ by @graplmentoring

Moving from “in the business” to “on the business” is the hardest shift a founder can make.

What got you to year 5 won’t get you to year 10. It is completely normal to hit a plateau when you become the bottleneck to your own growth.

We are 5 hours into our 10-hour strategic mentoring journey, and the breakthroughs this week were massive.

Swipe through to see the exact framework we used to get these co-founders out of the weeds and back into leadership. ➡️

When you’re the engine of the business, it’s hard to find time to steer.

Proud of these two for doing the heavy lifting.

This week I’m meeting all three of my current pro-bono mentees (as part of my ILM7 studies) in person.
On the same day 😅

Three totally different focus areas but one common thread — moving from operator to leader, in whatever form that takes for them.

Mentoring isn’t my sole focus, but it’s some of the most rewarding work I do. The path looks different every time, but the end goal often crosses the same ground as my *consulting work with @grapl.co

I’ll be at the Cornwall Business Fair on Wednesday. If you’re around, say hi 👋

A little prep today for a workshop with two founders of a successful business next week.

The company has grown naturally over the past five years, hiring staff along the way. But in the busyness of running it, neither founder has taken the time to think about their vision or longer term strategy. And whilst the team is growing, they’ve naturally hit the referral growth ceiling — identifying the need to do things differently.

Post-it notes ready. I’m excited to get deep into the engine of what drives them, their future vision for the company, and the foundations they need to lay for continued growth.
