Stadium Stompers by @graupyyy

We Shall Not Be Moved

Stadium Stompers is a movement of community members, students, and faculty fighting to stop Temple University’s 35k seat football stadium. Since 2015, Stadium Stompers and the broader North Central Philadelphia community have successfully stopped the stadium efforts and continue to fight gentrification in Philadelphia.

Up With Community, Down With The Stadium!

An absolute joy to make this piece for @kate.h______ in honor and of her dog Dave. 💕✨

Thanks Kate for your trust and patience! I constantly oscillate between hope and despair questioning art’s ability to do *anything* in these times so it means a lot to me to focus on the simple act of making as a form of love and care. Thanks Kate for letting me putting some love, care and nervous energy into this work.✨✨✨

made this lil painting for my mom in honor of her retirement. not like she needs more paintings of a flamboyan tree in her house but now she has one from me.🌹

A fiery tree withstanding the rising waters—pretty apt for my mom after 50 years of work in social services. And her hair was red growing up. And her name is Rosa. 💯✨🇵🇷

So hype to have two pieces in Caminos Por Andar (Paths to Be Taken) exhibition opening tomorrow at the University of Northern Colorado. @unc_galleries 💕

Damn, Super3LLi0t has never looked so good.😍 Well, he might not feel that great, but Chico’s got a nice glow going on. Super3LLi0t survived the s c a t t e r i n g and he was happy to bump into his digits — Metal Fingers and Invisible Hand — but the feeling isn’t really mutual. Hoping these three can work out their stuff. It can be so easy to take your hurt out on people close to you. But c’mon, how can you be so sad in such a lovely environment? (jk you can be miserable anywhere. Have u seen Cuba this week?)

🌀🌀🌀🌀🌀🌀🌀🌀🌀🌀🌀🌀🌀🌀🌀🌀🌀

Also, have you ever seen meeting notes framed up so nicely? The devs over at Next Day are working hard to provide you with the greatest choose-yr-own-adventure from hell. Scan the QR code and see for yourself.👾

✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨

About the exhibition:
Caminos Por Andar (Paths to Be Taken) explores Latinx and Chicanx futurism in contemporary art through the lens of speculative fiction, magical realism and anti-colonial traditions. Featured artists engage with a liberated heritage to envision joyful and equitable futures through a variety of artistic mediums. Given the fluidity of human identity and blurred lines between culture and heritage, artists create freely from a place of diasporic understanding, drawing on their own ancestry and traditions to center Latinx and Chicanx experiences in imagined and alternate realities.

watch the rock come together!

Did you know, you can find pieces of the island of blockadia on Earth? After the s c a t t e r i n g, what’s left of the landscape landed in remote areas of the Atlantic Ocean.

While us earthlings can’t really do anything with them, blockadians know the ground—the rock—the rubble stand as primary source and witness of the world around them. If you are attuned to the petrified and its energies, you can even hear memories or see visions of what came before. Those most attuned can even see vision of the future. Most humans haven’t developed sensory organs strong enough to pick up on these frequencies.

Today is the last day to see this piece at @davinciartalliance 💕 Thank you to everyone has come through and shared sweet words about the work.🌈 Huge thanks to @ash_fffff for believing in my work (especially when I’m feeling really doubtful!)

After the island of blockadia was blown to shit, its people (survivors)—already coming from every corner of the galaxy—found themselves part of a new diaspora.

Some found themselves in new environments and cultures, others on entirely new planets and timelines. And some, just ended up neck deep in water, waiting and hoping to be rescued.

💧💧💧💧💧💧💧💧💧💧💧💧💧💧💧💧💧

This piece is sad and also just kinda cyclically poignant.

Drawings for this piece started a few years ago—during hurricane season—as Hurricane Fiona was hitting Puerto Rico. It brought back a lot memories from Hurricane Maria in 2017 and the destruction it brought on the small island colony.

And now in 2024, when so much of Appalachia and Florida is reeling from these storms. And the feeling many of us have of struggling to stay above water with daily atrocities happening across the world.😔

Please donate to people and communities doing ground support and relief work in Florida, Appalachia, G4za, PR, everywhere! 🖤🖤🖤

✨How long have I been keeping my head above water? Thank the gods someone is coming! I just wish I wasn’t the only one left.✨

On view at @davinciartalliance until October 20th.

Thanks to everyone who came out last weekend to @davinciartalliance 💕 I’m grateful to be showing alongside some really wonderful artists: @daisydiamondart @lichen.thing @nicki.ripple @reclaimed_lumber and @ash_fffff

The show is up until 10/20, so go check it out while it’s up!

This piece almost went to the trash instead of the gallery!🫣But I’m so glad I kept it around and was able to see its process through. I’ve been doing workshops with kids in Philly jails for a little more than 5 years. It can be challenging in many ways but (for me as an adult and a facilitator) it’s so hard to see a kid in the hole. Doing a workshop with a human child through a 3” metal door and a peephole and (maybe) a light (maybe) is maddening to say the least.

This piece is dedicated to a student I had years ago who dropped some wisdom for kids coming up to State Road after him: “why would you be in jail in jail?”

Please consider donating to your local bail fund! There are a lot of people sitting in jail because they can’t afford bail.

✨conjuring a biiiiiig support.✨

The Book of Small Magics contains a spell that can conjure a being that currently exists or exists in the past. However, it’s only a mimic and acts using previously gained knowledge. It cannot learn or maneuver new concepts or skills. Note: This is a volatile, temporary spell. The spirit’s duration depends on the power and health of the conjurer.

Determined Incarnate (Kaiju), acrylic and oil on canvas, 24” x 30”, 2024.

this lil painting has been sitting and slowly building up washes and strokes for (I think) more than a year. a lot of pieces came and went as it sat there watching, witnessing and morphing, but I think I can let it go for now.

if rocks and rubble could talk…
