I posted a burned ceramic mask of this chap on Jan. 28th. This statue came from one of the shrine bonfires from last week. He is one of the Seven Gods of Fortune, Daikokuten, god of commerce and prosperity. He is also the patron of cooks, farmers and bankers and a demon-hunter. Daikokuten’s origins come from China: he’s the Japanese version of the Buddhist god of death, Mahakala, and his name is a direct translation which means “Great Blackness”. In Japan, he’s often depicted carrying a hammer. #sometsuke #blueandwhiteware #blueandwhiteporcelain #blueandwhitepottery #porcelain #japaneseporcelain #japanesepottery #brokenpottery #brokenceramics #japaneseceramics #ceramics #potterysherds #mudlark #mudlarking #mudlarkingfinds #seaglass #seaceramics #seapottery #bottledump #bottledumpfinds #beachcombing #treasurehunting #daikoku by @graveyardmudlark

On the way to work, I came across a new demolition site. The builders had already gone home for the evening. The site was covered with a thick, sticky clay, out of which was sticking what looked like a complete bowl. I reached over the rope and pulled out a big, sticky lump, took it home and discovered it was this! The loveliest complete bowl I’ve ever found! Edit: I think this is a lucky bowl, and the fish is a red snapper (tai) which symbolizes good luck. 🥰🥰🥰 by @graveyardmudlark

I was back on the Thursday morning site, two weeks after finding the glass slag. Today, I found some chunks of glass cullet that had been exposed by the rain. #mudlarking #treasurehunting #glasscullet #oldglass #glassmaking by @graveyardmudlark

A bit of bowl I found last week. Nice hand-painting on a gritty fabric. Is that a clover leaf? Typhoon 25 is here today, so the music is fitting. #mudlarking #treasurehunting #sometsuke #blueandwhiteporcelain #japaneseporcelain by @graveyardmudlark

Last Thursday on the blue glass site. There was a huge pool of rainwater, and dragonflies were flitting across it. #mudlarking #treasurehunting #oldglass #blueglass #glassmaking by @graveyardmudlark

I couldn’t shift the clarg from this old base shard, but somehow, the mineral deposits and pink stains make it more attractive to me. I think those are bamboo leaves poking out from behind the clarg. #treasurehunting #mudlarking #sometsuke #blueandwhiteporcelain #japaneseporcelain by @graveyardmudlark
