Five years of silence. Here’s what I’ve learned:

In a small community, your name can become currency in conversations you never asked to join. Men have used my name to gain access, provoke a reaction, or start a conversation with another woman in the bike industry. And when a woman with influence in that industry uses my name at company-sponsored events in a slanderous way, that can only come back to haunt that person time and again.

I’ve experienced the name-calling, social rejection, and I’ve seen what happens when you refuse to participate in the politics.

For five years, I kept riding, kept my distance, and refused to turn my life into a public feud. But silence is not weakness, and choosing peace doesn’t mean I don’t see what’s happening.

I’m not here to compete for anyone’s attention, permission, or approval. I’m here because I love this sport, I’ve earned my place on these trails, and I’m building something of my own.

The competitive urge to chase down your friends on the weekend loop is a different kind of on-the-limiter stress.

The Alcoholic’s Denial: When Bad Things Happen, You’re Drunk

We talk about the saying that other people try to tell you that you’re an alcoholic, but you don’t hear it. We explain how it goes: when you were drunk, sometimes bad things didn’t happen, but every time something bad happened, you happened to be drunk.

You’re actually a service worker, a nurse, or a trust fund baby to have weekdays off.
