One of the most wholesome things in the world is seeing the reaction of my mates when another woman shouts a compliment at them in the street. It seems far more common today than when I was younger, and it’s absolutely brilliant. Lift people up, make them smile, make them feel confident.

It has been almost 6 months since I started doing poetry performances and evenings and truly it’s been the best six months of my life to share my work and my craft and my creativity with other creative souls. I truly haven’t found a better community. I have made so many friends even though I tend to be the youngest in the room and now I truly believe that through poetry I have grown my confidence more than I thought it could my first poetry performance in February 2026 and I was so nervous to get up on stage. I was shaking and very very nervous and I spoke very fast now too today where I get on stage or behind a microphone and I don’t shake. I can look into a crowd of people and talk slow and I know when to pause most importantly I know when to laugh at myself when I make a mistake because everyone’s going to make a mistake sharing something they love so much it’s inevitable but now something I realise is making a mistake is not something to be embarrassed about. It’s something to laugh about and it shows that you’re human and it shows that you work really hard on what you do and your brain really wants it to be relayed gorgeously but sometimes you stutter or you miss a word or you just completely mess up a sentence and that’s okay but doing this past six months has been the most eye opening thing to see other people’s work and to hear my own work and to hear how people relate to me and seeing people shed tears from what I’m saying is truly a beautiful thing that I don’t think I’ll ever get over. the experience of for example seeing my Dad sit in a crowd while I read a poem that I wrote about him on his birthday for a birthday present that I decided I didn’t want to give to him until he was sat in the room and I was behind a microphone and seeing my dad cry for the first time because of what I said about him was such a lovely experience because when you see someone so close to you have such a reaction to your words it is honestly the best feeling and to be so supported by all my friends and the people in this community who have took me under their wing and supported me and helped me grow and appreciate everything around me xx taken in Liverpool by @graycee.phillips
