Magazine as part of my project 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐅𝐑𝐀𝐆𝐈𝐋𝐄 𝐒𝐄𝐋𝐅 𝐈𝐍 𝐀 𝐅𝐋𝐔𝐈𝐃 𝐖𝐎𝐑𝐋𝐃

At the heart of the project 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐅𝐑𝐀𝐆𝐈𝐋𝐄 𝐒𝐄𝐋𝐅 𝐈𝐍 𝐀 𝐅𝐋𝐔𝐈𝐃 𝐖𝐎𝐑𝐋𝐃 is a multi-layered exploration of the fragility and fragmentation of the self in today’s uncertain and changing times.

This theme was explored through two complementary media forms and made artistically tangible:

1. An experimental short dance film forms the main visual and emotional medium of the project. Improvised movement sequences embody the fragile self in a poetic and abstract way.

2. An accompanying print medium deepens the theoretical framework of the project.

The magazine combines scientific theory (by Eva Illouz, Zygmunt Bauman, Alexandra Kofler & Andreas Reckwitz, among others), essayistic reflections, open questions and visual design into an interdisciplinary overall format. It covers theoretical foundations from the current sociological perspective of postmodernism and identity research – which are systematically presented in six chapters. In addition, two contemporary essays (by Francesca Valentin @frantschuldigensie & Alice Smith) offer individual perspectives on the topic.

With the project 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐅𝐑𝐀𝐆𝐈𝐋𝐄 𝐒𝐄𝐋𝐅 𝐈𝐍 𝐀 𝐅𝐋𝐔𝐈𝐃 𝐖𝐎𝐑𝐋𝐃, I explored, on a theoretical and creative level, the question of how the self is formed in an increasingly
fluid, unstable present – and how these processes can be experienced emotionally, physically and visually.

My goal was to create a comprehensive classification and snapshot of our time – an approach to the question of why individuals today feel the way they do, and which social conditions promote or reinforce this inner fragility.

The magazine is presented in a specially moulded and assembled protective container, also made of epoxy resin.
